I cringe every time I read something about Hunters being a DPS class or Titans being a tank. Y'all are ridiculous!!! I laugh every time I read someone's post saying they picked this or that class for the DPS! Or that they're gonna "roll" this or that class first! Well. I laugh. And then it really annoys me.
Yes, Destiny has "raids". Yes, I know you played WOW and/or are familiar with RPG or MMO lingo. Good for you. Hardly any of it applies to Destiny - at all!!!
This game is a shooter, first and foremost. For the vast majority of the time, your damage will be from your guns. We all use the same guns. No class has a magical bonus to bullet damage.
All of our supers do a lot of damage, each with strengths in different situations. Differences in supers do not merit lumping a class into a traditional MMORPG role! Yes, Defender and Sunsinger admittedly have a good super for support and they'll certainly be helpful for team play, but you'll never be able to spam cast the damn things.
Yes, titans start with more armor, but it's negligible when it comes to actual firefights. Do you honestly think a Titan will ever be able to sit and tank?! No.
I dunno. I just think it's silly and a waste of time to try and discuss this game in traditional MMORPG terms. Oh, and annoying.
Rant over.

hmmm i see where you are going.... after alot of thought ...and thanks to your post i think i will roll a dps class

What is a DPS? A tank from what I know is a devil in a strick to kill. I class this game as a role playing game. Just because you ware a gun dose not stop a game being a role playing game.
-
The Titan is for punching! The Warlock is for mid-range aoe/survival. The Hunter is for long range/sneaking. Which do you prefer?
-
I mostly agree with you, however the stats of each class do make a significant difference. For example, the titan has higher armour and it is NOT negligible. In PvP I played mostly as a hunter, and I would say almost all my deaths in 1v1 situations were at the hands of titans simply because of their superior armour. Warlocks and Hunters never stand much chance against me in those scenarios. However, if I face a good Titan, they can beat me even if I land all perfect headshots.
-
Agree.. Very good.
-
Titans dont start with more armor. All classes start out with the same amount of armor.
-
"They're all the same!" *proceeds to list out a sampling of the differences between classes* I giggled a little bit.

Good Rant! It needed to be Said! 'Hope your feeling better... -FingerLickr

Dps is damage per second. A dps class focuses on raw damage, nothong else. It can't do anything else. From what we know of the sub classes hunter is a dps class, no matter what sub class your in the only thing you do is damage and lots of it. Titans as tanks fits perfectly with the generalised term for a tank. A high armour, high health character who's job is to get on the enemy's face. Yes there is no aggro table like mmorpgs have but assuming everything is equal on 3 guardians and a boss fires a homing projectile that has to hit a party member which do you choose? The warlock that will likely die outright, the hunter who is going to be critically wounded that they have to hide so not doing any damage or the tanky high armour titan than takes maybe 1/2 or 2/3 of their health? There are no healing sub class, that we know of and even if there was it wouldnt be mmorpg healer, its more like support sub class. While some mmorpg terms aren't applicable most are you just have to understand what people mean by them.
-
Yes there is. 3 of them in fact.

You should read this list & add to it. http://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/66935192/0/0

You bring up quite afew good points this being one of them:
All of our supers do a lot of damage, each with strengths in different situations. Differences in supers do not merit lumping a class into a traditional MMORPG role! Yes, Defender and Sunsinger admittedly have a good super for support and they'll certainly be helpful for team play, but you'll never be able to spam cast the damn things.
We cannot categorize the subclasses by their supers. We can't exactly spam them so they're hardly a factor when defining the class. The Titan has a shield, but it cannot tank. No one can withstand concentrated fire for a long period. Yes there is no DPS class. Everyone deals damage. There is no restriction on weapons for any of the classes. Each person will pick a weapon they are comfortable with. There will be a variety of weapons' stats and elements.
-
So much speculation when nobody has seen every subclass. So far we know that the warlock can buff teammates creating a support class. We also know that the titan can shield teammates creating a support class. We so far have only seen non supportive build structure from both subclasses for the hunter. Now...3rd subclass speculation... What if_________had a subclass that healed? we don't know everything yet, but right now it looks like the hunter has the least supportive ability.

None of this crap matters. It's all about the loot!

Edited by Thrillhouse: 8/13/2014 2:51:59 PMStupid MMO nerds trying to feel special. I want the game to release sooner just so they can realize and STFU. After a month I'm hoping they move on once they understand this isn't WoW.

There all dps classes
-
Shush!!! I want to see their faces when they find out themselves.

I'm rolling a warlock for my main

Actually they're all dps class, but I get it :D.

on the triangle of the three major classes of Warrior, Mage, and Thief, the classes in Destiny lie somewhere far from the extremes. So while they have some traits they are not nearly as pronounced as they are in some other games.
-
Edited by John Doe: 8/12/2014 10:21:45 PMAll classes are DPS in a sense. Hunters are designed for extremely high single target DPS, Warlocks are for high AoE DPS and zone control, and Titans are for CQC AoE DPS. So while they all are in a sense "DPS" classes, the utility varies. I think when people say "DPS" they really mean single target DPS, which corresponds to the Hunter class. The only non "DPS"classes will be certain builds of the Defender Titan and Sunsinger Warlock.

So basically you are a moron and are denying the clear ability of the titan defender to absorb damage and the hunter supers to deal damage. Interesting...
