Is anyone else disappointed that the PVP limit on players is 12? After playing BF4, anything less than 12v12 seems very last gen and slow paced. Even killzone had 24 player matches. At the very least have a big team battle game type like in Halo. While 3v3 and 6v6 can be fun and challenging, sometimes its just fun to jump into chaos and see who comes out on top. Anyone else agree?
Some of you guys seem to think I'm comparing BF4 and Destiny directly. I'm merely using it as an example. I do not want 64 player matches. I do not think every map should allow 24 players. All I'm asking for is a couple maps that can support 24ish players. Such as, Halos big team battles did. Or even CODs Big team deathmatch.

Ewwww PvP

*Looks at the game MAG* "Never Again"

Agreed, fail for Bungie to downgrade the player count from 16 to 12, instead of upgrading it.
-
Bigger isn't always better my friend. How the hell did you find this games PvP to be slow paced? It's about map size in relation to the player amount, and Destiny is spot on.
-
12 is enough for the sizes of the maps we've seen so far. I think 64 players at once on those maps would have been hectic.
-
Its worth noting that Halo's big team matches were only 8v8. Not a huge difference, and one that I think could be supported with map sizes as they are. I think large teams in Destiny would clash with its mechanics in a way no other game has had to deal with. Primarily super abilities. A team of 8-16 players would have someone capable of super at almost every moment in the match (excluding the first 2 minutes). I don't know that I would like that match. Its all good now because teams are highly dangerous WHEN they have super available. That would no longer be situational in a larger combat scenario, it would simply become the reality of play. Get in a vehicle? Get nova'd immediately. Try the ground game? Golden gun drops you. Supersoaking would just be too frustrating.

I think it is alright, with character skills and abilities. Seems like any more players and it would get way too chaotic.

Edited by Edgar Grim: 8/11/2014 3:17:56 AMI love the idea that there are going to be 3v3/6v6/and 9/9 matches in destiny. 3v3 is just you and your fireteam putting your skills to test against another, 6v6/9v9 is the more standard team sizes. Can the hardware handle larger matches with massive numbers of players? I don't doubt it, but the real question is does Bungie want to do larger matches? Everything seems to indicate no they don't. I think they want to limit the number of players not from a hardware requirement but quality of gameplay standpoint. But who knows maybe Destiny will have a big map at launch or maybe a future expansion, I just don't think it matches what they have shown so far and I am ok with that.

I think it could be cool, but I also think it's important that Destiny maintain kind of a gameplay standard within itself. I only played Battlefield up to BF3 and, although variety can be nice, there would be vast mechanical shifts from one map & mode setting to another. Some maps would be cramped, no-vehicle affairs where close-quarters combat ruled. Others would be so large that not having a vehicle was either a death sentence or meant you would be on foot with nothing to do for long periods of time. This inconsistency (in an attempt to appeal to every FPS player) lead to huge parts of the games mechanics being ignored depending on the map and mode. I realize adding more players to a map doesn't necessarily mean the mechanics will shift drastically, but I feel it does indicate the possibility of a shift. If the shift is large enough that certain player builds don't function as well in 12v12 as they do in 6v6 it creates two separate meta-games that Bungie would need to balance separately. This could be incredibly complex and has the chance at detracting from both sides as well as chancing a division in the community. Of course all of the negative sides of adding more players to game designed and balanced around 6v6 are avoidable with good design. I'm not trying to cry doom or say large player counts don't work, I just feel it has to be incorporated into the design well. If Bungie could incorporate larger player counts and still keep the experience similar then I'm all for it.

bungie like every other company. saves the better stuff for the sequel. the sequel will have flyable vehicles, big team battle, swords, and better customization.
-
COD's big game modes are 18 players not 24

-
12 worked perfectly in my opinion. Made every player matter.
-
I like running into the same people twice (or more) in a single match.
-
Did you play the Alpha or Beta? If you did, you would have realized that 6v6 is enough to make the PvP gameplay fast, fluid and fun.
-
I don't think 6v6 is that bad that's just my opinion who knows maybe they will add a mass war match later down the road. It would be a little crazy tho seeing like 24 nova bombs going off lol we can just rush in waves of power-ups
-
BF4 is playable?
-
I don't care if they make a game type with more players, but I will never play it.
-
Yes but you see what your missing here is that this is Destiny not Battlefield
-
Well they did only have 1 game mode so they might.
-
We only played a beta. Why does no one appreciate this
-
Are we sure there isn't a mode like that? We only played one mode of PvP in the beta, even Iron Banner was Domination. Unless bungie released some information regarding PvP that I somehow missed in my 3-6 hours a day on bungie.net and the forums, I don't think we actually know what the PvP game types are.
-
When I played the Crucible I rarely had trouble finding an enemy to kill unless people quit mid game. So 6v6 seems just perfect for now. Maybe when Bungie releases more maps and makes them bigger they'll increase the size for some playlists. Who knows.
-
I agree, they should at least have 8v8, first light is much too large for teams of only 6. Here's to hoping Bungie will come through.
-
I prefer matches with less players to be honest. It makes teamwork and strategy more important.
-
I'm down. But bigger the teams, bigger chance to end up with "that guy" and it effs up the whole game with just one of them..
