Raid Matchmaking. Let's Settle This!!!

Yes I do want matchmaking in raids.

552

No I do not want matchmaking in raids.

633

The title really says it all here. I have read hundreds of replies on dozens of threads about this. Some people want matchmaking in raids. Other people are against matchmaking in raids. The one thing I have not seen is a legitimate poll on this. By legitimate I mean not loaded with one sided options. So that is basically what this post is about. In no way is this meant to be a ballet to convince Bungie what to do. Just trying to get an accurate poll of the numbers since it has not really been done. So what do you guys think. If you decide to vote it would also be helpful if you leave a reply stating why you believe they should either include or not include raids. I ask that we please keep this mature. If you don't agree with what someone posts provide a mature and logical reply, not just something like, "You are wrong because you are a noob." or, "You are wrong because you're an elitist prick." that stuff is in no way helping your side of the debate. Okay so I will get it started with my opinion on the topic. I am against Bungie adding matchmaking to raids. Please hear me out before you get upset and reply without reading my whole opinion. I really have no problem with MM as I myself will not be using it. I have been playing with a group of over 15 people since Halo 3 days so for me having 5 other friends to play with is no problem. I understand that some people do not have this luxury going into Destiny. You do however have the option to join clans, as well as make friends on these forums and during other portions of the game. I will admit for making friends in game to really happen Bungie needs to add in some type of chat system. Bungie has seen the feedback on lack of chat and hopefully will do something about it. I know what you are thinking right now if I don't have a problem with others using MM, and will not be using it, then why not just ignore the fact that it is in game. These raids are going to be extremely hard according to Bungie. They will take a long time for even the most coordinated teams to master. In matchmaking I guarantee you will have at least one teammate who is either not communicating, has his own agenda, or is just plain out bad. So now for you the raids have become even harder. I know, I know, if you won't be using MM why do you care that it will be hard for those who are using it. I care because once the people using MM begin to get frustrated from failing over and over again they will begin to complain to Bungie that the raids are too hard. In reality the raids are not too hard they just lack the proper teamwork to complete them. Eventually Bungie will likely give into the constant complaints and nerf the raids so that everyone is able to enjoy them. This has happened in countless other games, and is the number one fear of all the hardcore raiders. If raids get nerfed a week later you will see everyone and their mother walking around in legendary gear that is meant to be for those who have conquered the most difficult part of the game. That is why I personally do not want MM for raids in Bungie. Please leave your response and own opinions but like I said before keep it mature and respectful as I did.

Raids also need to not just be hard/tough but FUN and rewarding as well.
Raids also need to not just be hard/tough but FUN and rewarding as well.
What I mean by that is after a raid you could be chilling with your buddies admiring your hard earned loot and telling stories of your triumphs and pitfalls whilst you were raiding.

    • I completely agree with your statement. I'm really tired of games dumbing down or nerfing the end game content (like raids) so that everyone can do it. It's not supposed to be like that, it's supposed to set the few, those strong enough, coordinated enough, and driven enough apart from the masses, when you walk around in your gear you got from beating it everyone should say oh shit..... He actually beat that. I want it to be extremely hard to become maxed out great wise, and what you said about matchmaking leading to complaining and eventually nerfing is exactly right, I've seen it in tons of games. I have no one to play destiny with at this point, I'll be starting alone, but not having matchmaking will feed the community, it forces us to get involved, to talk to other prior, rather than waiting for a que timer, running through the dungeon with people you don't know with out saying a word to each other, collecting the loot, leaving. It would ruin the entire feel of the game.

    • I don't think MM is the best solution to the problem. I think that the best solution would be to add a looking for raid channel in the tower so that people can actually form groups in-game and would have the ability to screen players before they join. That said if they add MM no skin off my back.

        • No Matchmaking Why? Because if the Raids are as punishing as bungie says I want to know that the person to my left and right are in it for the long haul, and won't just quit out (for silly reasons) in the middle of the raid. Basically I want to be able to trust them to work with me as a team. That is all...

        • I can see why most people don't want matchmaking, but I think it should be there as an option. I don't have enough friends who will play the game let alone get together for raids. I feel it should be there as an option so they can open themselves up to a larger audience and if you don't want to use it, you don't have to.

        • So this has pretty much to come to a halt with the votes being 527- Against Raid MM 396- For Raid MM Will be curious to see how all the people who are not on these forums effect the scale come September 9th. Good hunting fellow guardians.

I just want raids to be difficult. If bungie doesn't give in to complaints then I don't care if MM happens or not.

          • No matchmaking, because from the sounds of things Raids need teamwork and communication.

          • I've never done an actual raid but the closest I can come to it in my opinion is cod zombies and when u have the one guy who's just a -blam!-ing idiot in a public game it really does suck so yeah no matchmaking for me. It will be a bitch tho to have 6 of my friends online at the same time that are lvl 20+

            • Me and my friends don't plan on having a life outside of destiny come September. We won't have any problems finding people to raid with. But sure, add matchmaking. Why the hell not? Won't affect me or my friends at all. At least give the lonely people a chance to play raids.

              • Raids should be for the people willing to complete them, if not part of a Clan MM for raids should start at level 40. I think that would weed out the amateurs and rage quitters

                • I think the solution is fairly simple. Raids are difficult because you get severely punished for messing up. WoW is a good example - a new raid comes out, the hardcore guilds go through it, and it gets progressively dumbed down over time by Blizzard. I think instead of a progressive easing, just have an option to select raid difficulty from the onset. Easier raid difficulty would mean lower health enemies that do less damage and render sub par loot compared to a high difficulty setting. That way, hardcore fans get what they want, and casual players who want to experience the whole scope of the narrative get that, too. Done. Everyone gets their money's worth, and hardcore players don't roll random teams anyways.

                  • Unfortunately I think that most of the people that want matchmaking don't understand the point of raids. The first hurdle to overcome is to find a group to raid with regularly. If you aren't able to do that, raiding is not your cup of tea. It's not elitist. It's how raids are designed. You need to be able to invest several hours a week, every week, into a raid in order to learn it. How boss fights work, how to complete puzzles, how to communicate with your fire team. Hundreds of hours and months of your time. That's just the raid itself. Before you even start raiding you're going to spend hundreds of hours getting your gear to the right level. Getting your spec made up. Finding the proper guns, with the proper elements. Upgrading your gear so that it's optimally setup with one of your class builds. While you spend the time getting yourself ready, you should be looking for the right group of people. Maybe join a clan and do some strikes with them. Some Nightfall missions. Once you have a group of people, then you start trying to raid. If you have matchmaking, what do you do when a guy that just finished getting to level 25 is in your raid group? And someone doesn't have a mic? Or someone goes to the bathroom but doesn't tell anyone? If the Raids in Destiny are anything like Raids in other MMOs, then they have a lockout feature. Once you start a raid, you are 'locked' in that instance of the raid. You can't join another person's raid and vice versa. They typically reset once a week(in WoW this happened on Tuesday). Now you have to wait a week to try again. After investing all that time in yourself, you really want to roll the dice that the random people you'll get stuck with will do any good?

                    • We really dont all want to make more friends online, JUST to play raids, we also dont want to join a clan that will kick you if you dont play enough, and last, not all of our friends play at the same time or the same length as you. Its just inconvenience

Destiny doesn't need match making for raids. Some type of little text chat channel that appears at the bottom of the screen or one that's accessible from the website/app for those looking for raid parties. That should solve the issue.

                    • I think that raids need match making. I -blam!-ing ridiculous that there is no match making here is why. 1.what if you can find find 5other guardians to play may take you hours to find people with out match making. 2. It can't be that hard for bungie employees to make this happen what were you guy's thinking really. 3.with match making make it so that people can't join in game progress and get rewarded for loot the barely help get. 4. Raids is an end game activity right. Well for match making people would have to bet the game and have a high enough level guardian to enter a raid.

                        • Matchmaking should be allowed anyone who can't find a fire team will be able to play and if you don't believe in having the match making you can still have your own fire team with friends

                          • The answer is simple, yes raid is hard, yes it takes planning and teamwork, but nowhere does it say you need to have a dedicated no life band of guardians willing to raid on whim. Bungie has stated many times that this game was created for the casual gamer first, yes there will be challenges, but Bungie has no plans to lock out the casual player base. Imagine logging in with three friends, looking for two ore and being set up in matchmaking, before the mission you can talk to each other and a sign roles, just like many people did between instances in WOW... Now you have the ability to just log in and be put with a group that needs you, and friends who have enough to fill the roster will work even better together. But the difficulty will stay the same, and eventually someone failing the mission 20 times will learn how to run it with a randomness team and perhaps even take on a leader role. Besides in destiny, there's not much distinction to lean on one class more than another for a.specific situation, such as best at AOE, someone to pull aggro, or a healer, etc. Everyone is just awesome and shoots stuff, using ults wisely and etc. So I don't see other than playing with a total deep would make a.mission any more easy than.playing with a bunch of well organized buddies. Easier yes, but impossible without, no. I also imagine they will be matching teams by skill level perhaps a ranking system, to help weed out those not as serious and match higher ranked players with others who they will most likely not have to carry. So in case you didn't hear before, Destiny is first and foremost a.casual game, you don't like it go back to WOW or etc.

Its not the perfect solution but it's better then nothing
