My char walks in hearing this banter in the local pub. Watching as you go into this speech he walks over to a near by table and sits in the chair; leaning back and kicking up his feet. He pops out his spent clip and put in one filled with blanks. Then he pulls out a cigarette ( I don't smoke in real life btw) and blows that entire clip of blanks to light up one of them. The entire crowd pulled out their guns at him and you stop your speech and stare at him aghast. "Whut," he replied with a wry smirk.

  • ...Your char is a dick, but I admire your charmingly rugged rogue appeal. Like the Comedian from Watchmen. Still it takes all kinds, and its cool to see people roleplay, even if the characters they play are irreverent. XD

My char Elric stands up with his arms up in the air; the spent gun laid on the table still smoking from the rounds heavier that he was taking a drag on his cigarette. Everyone sighs (couple including your own char flips him off) and you resume your speech. he takes the light embers on the end of his smokes and started to kill the little mutated bugs and mosquitoes on his armor. (a couple of them actually squeal) He goes up to the bar and asks for a drink and to put it on his tab which they refused. You finish your speech finally and his forehead slaps the table in seemingly despair. The bartender looks down and wrinkles his nose, "you that hard up for a drink friend?" "Nope," he replied heaving a heavy sigh himself; "Just grateful he finished that speech and I can finally sleep." You grab him by his collar, dragged him out and beat the living shit out of him. Moral of the story: Don't ever have yer PvEer piss off a PvPer. Yas NOT gonna win. =)

My char is an asshole. When he was alive he was part of an elite family that was protected by the original guardians and his family stepped over their bodies by the dozens as they died to protect them. During his life he fell in love with a hunter woman and chose to manipulate the passenger list so she could get away and he was left behind scared out of his damn mind in a Hunter's uniform with a gun. Elric seemed to have been a natural if he was allowed to learn he could have been actually dangerous but he just died not having any survival skills; fear gripping his heart. Resurrected he found the outcome of that woman he had loved all those years ago and carry a brooch she wore everywhere. he doesn't want to get close to anyone ever again. he never wants to care about another as much as he did for her. So he chose to be a guardian so he can do what she always did. protect. his nickname is the White Gargoyle. Between fighting the enemy he waits. Just waits. Makes no friends get close to know one. He just waits to kill the enemy again. His favorite blade (unless he can duel weild eventually) is always named Storrmbringer =)

I can dig it. Perhaps Elric's family had ties to the New Monarchy then? They have a close relationship with the City's royal family (in case you were unaware). Being one of their relatives could effect some aspects of his life. With nothing to care about, he might act as a willing sword to be ordered about by the faction that still holds a familial tie to him. It would make a faction choice fit the concept, and fighting for the glory of his family name may give Elric a reason to head into PvP (should that ever be where his journey takes him). The White Gargoyle, btw, is a great title. Respect. My character is an Awoken, and by the nature of his race does not remember quite who he was before the collapse. Having been revived on Earth though, he has had no connection with a racial culture. He seeks answers in the void, in the philosophies and these burning questions drive him to always be on the hunt for the unknown. Seeking his past to define his present will change his future in ways he cannot foresee. He has heard whispers and rumor of the Awoken out on the Reef. Getting there is his first significant quest. The pursuit of knowledge has made him a dedicated Warlock, and in the short time he has been a Guardian, his efforts to find his place among civilization have earned him the respect and friendship of combatants in the Crucible, the Iron Banner, and of Guardians out on the frontier. He rallied these fellow guardians to his banner by virtue of skill, wisdom and charisma to follow him into the black to seek and safeguard the secrets of the solar system. To develop himself into a true leader. Yet he struggles, for who can hope to command others who does not know himself? And so he leads his team, "The Keepers of Light." (True story, I was able to do exactly as written during Beta, and have formed a clan of the name provided.) What he may find waiting for him among the stars is anyone's guess, but to conquer the chaos is the next test he throws himself at, hungry for knowledge and power. This struggle between the light of the Traveler that makes him a Guardian, and the taint of the darkness present in all the Awoken plays a part in his struggle to define himself. I look forward to developing him, and the Keepers, come launch. -The Destined: Iaeryn [EE-Ay-rin] Grandmaster of The Keepers of Light

  • Well mine is awoken to and I assumed originally the awoken was the ones raised (it was my first play through then I found out everyone was including the Exo. I have no idea if the awoken is an alien race or what not however even if so we know NOTHING about them so I made up a past with little knowledge. Ah he is ashamed of his family. He refused to take another's life on purpose or by accident that is not of the darkness so he doesn't fight others in the crucible. Nice story btw and very well informed apparently adds great char to yer char heh.

  • Hey thanks man, you sort of inspired me to develop it officially! For what it's worth, every event in the crucible is canonically catalogued, and all of it is reversible by the nature of the events (Not sure how, but no one REALLY dies). I noticed a Warlock bond (A rare one called After Effects) that stated "Nothing that happens in the Crucible is irreversible…except the lessons you learn." [Should be proof that no actual like taking is required]. I'm not trying to pressure you, if your character stays out of PvP for RP reasons to justify their behaviour as a result of you not enjoying playing PvP, that's totally cool. I just thought I'd let you know just so you don't limit yourself based on a fallacy :). Also, to inform a bit about your race, the birth of the Awoken came from the humans who tried to escape the collapse in the depth of space, running from the Darkness. Something happened to them out on the edge of space that changed them into what they are now. No one knows what that THING was, but it changed those people, and their descendants irrevocably. That's the only official lore available on the Awoken other than that most of the Awoken live reclusively out on the Reef and have no contact with Earth. Some returned to Earth, though those who did, along with their descendants, have been known to be treated as outsiders by the Queen of the Reef.

Yeah but in real life I suck at PvP so don't make me go in there and die too much LOL. Well my story can still work since it could have occurred during or right after since we have no idea if guardians were involved in it.

  • Yeah, I suppose it can. Especially since we actually don't know how long the collapse lasted, so they could overlap really nicely. Then of course you die during the dark ages, to be reborn at the beginning of your journey as a guardian.

  • My question is this. is there anyone still alive on earth? if not what the hell are we protecting then? Why did we even need to be resuurected and what is an EXO that it even needed to be rezzed at all? Repaired maybe. Are they sentient species of robots like transformers or something?

  • Oh, the Exo WERE war machines created by humans. The Traveler wiped their memories of all of the time before and then blessed them with true sentience. The Exo are true thinking, feeling beings now. They are still machines inside and out, but they absolutely have full and evolving personalities like everyone else. Issues with the Exo are that they must confront their lack of mortality (an Exo lives forever with effective maintenance), to my knowledge they cannot mate or reproduce (I'm fairly certain the secrets of building the Exo was lost in the collapse), and that they cannot remember any of their existence before the Traveler uplifted them. There are both male and female Exo. I think this is just for the purposes of defining themselves as having a male or female persona now that they are sentient, not for mating capability. The body types are likely different to accent and celebrate that "choice." I know gender isn't a choice per se [at birth], so when each Exo was uplifted by the Traveler, it was likely "born" in that moment and realized that they were either one or the other. That could be another of their issues. They also have no childhood, no learning process through years of experiences under the guidance of parents to make them who they are. They were static. One moment they did not exist from their own perspective, and the next moment they did. Its like their entire personality, all of who they are... was just given to them, handed down from on high, rather than developed over years of growing up and experiencing things. Its gotta be a shocking way to enter the world, and it can't be comforting to know that SOMETHING ELSE decided who YOU were going to be. The Exo are philosophically pretty cool. They can make really interesting characters, especially when/if they learn that their entire race were once unthinking slaves used by humans for protection and warfare. How does that make them feel about the robots that do all of the menial labour in the tower now? Even better, how does that make an Exo feel about being a Guardian, brought back from the dead for the singular purpose of protecting the City and its inhabitants from everything in the Universe that might want to hurt them... by killing every single one? With the knowledge of his or her race's past, An Exo guardian might feel more like a slave than a hero. *[They also don't sleep, which is badass, but could also be very lonely in a world of Humans and Awoken] Also... what in Gods name does an Exo do when they fall in love with an organic? They don't need sexuality as part of their companionship, but its presence in organic life could make that a serious barrier to her (or him). They could not have offspring with that person, and if they were exclusive romantically, they would condemn their partner to a life with no sexual component, and more importantly no children. Then, even if all that works out, when the Exo's organic partner dies, they have to continue on alone. Nevermind all of the potential social stygma around the idea of those relationships. The Exo can be quite tragic characters. Human and not Human at the same time.
