Lost ammo when switching guns (Beta hic-up)

I know that this is being asked well after the beta has come to an end, but now that I finally have a little time to address this I wanted to take the time to bring this up to see if anyone else noticed this. Did anyone else notice that if you go through the menu's to swap guns in and out of your inventory that you loose all of the ammunition for that particular weapon? As an example: Your running around the outer world carrying a sniper rifle (with a full ammo reserve) and you enter a building as part of a mission. You go through your inventory and swap out your sniper rifle with a shot gun and as you resume your game you realize that your shotgun is empty. So until you can pick up some ammo for your shot gun you switch back to your sniper rifle and you realize that you no longer have any ammo for your sniper rifle either. I can understand that if I had no ammunition for my shotgun beforehand that it would be empty. And I can also understand that the ammo reserves for my sniper wouldn't impact my shotguns ammo reserves as they are two completely different calibers of ammunition that are not compatible. But to return to a swapped out weapon that you were just carrying, that had a full reserve of ammunition, to find it empty ... that just seems a little odd. Did that happen to anyone else in the beta? Has this already been brought up and addressed? Will this happen in the game after release?

  • Bungie has said this is the "punishment" for switching guns mid game

  • Think about it...switching out a shotgun for a different shotgun makes sense the ammo in destiny for shotguns might be universal but switching a sniper rifle or a fusion rifle out with a shotgun....it just doesn't use the same ammo

    • It's an intentional design by bungie. It happened to me and I thought it was some sort of weird glitch that kept happening. If you switch heavy weapons or special weapons, the ammo will disappear and you will have to earn it back. Primary ammo stays, even if you switch.

      • It is an intentional design by Bungie, but I personally think it is horrible as it does not allow for adaptability. Particularly in PvE, unless you are precognitive, it hinders you. In truth, I think it applies to PvP as well because you don't know ahead of time what arsenal the opposing team, or even your own team, is bringing into battle. I understand the need for balance, but it is a terribly implemented method of balancing.

      • I think it's a compromise between a locked load out (can't change guns mid mission) and bigger load outs. They probably don't want you switching out weapons mid mission but figured the option plus a penalty was a better place to be.

I mean in PvP it would be a little op if some one was sitting across the map with a sniper guarding a point then switches to a shotty and takes a guy out in front of him then pulls out an assault rifle ya know. Hope this helps :3

          • Not a bug, it's Intentional. Learn to be mindful of kit swaps mid-mission.

            • It happened to me every time I switched weapons in primary, special and heavy classes.
