Crazy idea. Get rid of the kdr stat.

I know crazy. If destiny is truly to be a "team" concept game how can they incorporate an individual stat. First of all stats lie. Second of all people will do anything to get the highest individual stat. Stats lie = everyone uses kdr as a baseline of skill. The problem is its easily manipulated. People will make fake accounts to feed their main account. Often times people with high kdr are not attaining that against equal or better competition. How many of us all have seen the high kd player bail out of every game their kd might take a hit? I even entered a game of domination and was called everything one can imagine because I took flag b. Apparently they were playing "scrubs" and my team was allowing them to take the objectives. That way they could extend the game as long as possible to pump up that kd. Yea lot of skill there. Second people will do anything to get the highest stat. Many peole have stated kills for strikes is a bad system. As it doesn't account for actual damage done. So if someone is focusing the boss it won't show anywhere. Fair point. So if they add a damage meter I see no difference from kdr. You will just have a new stat to shoot for. So now people will focus on the most damage at the cost of the team. I see a world where you will have other peole not resurrecting each other in an attempt to stay on the top of the board. If your dead for 30 seconds you can't add to your score. So in pvp you have only score. Peole who amass kills will be rewarded with a higher score. If your more of an objective player you can take bases but still score well. It will better promote team work if it's overall score. In pve I suggest something like a success stat for strikes/raids. I played a titan and I stayed on the front lines. I typically was high on the kills stat. Not because I'm some kind of amazing player but because my play style rewarded me with that stat. I usually focused on taking down lesser enemies while my team focused on the bigger baddies. We played well as a team but I as an individual showed up better on the stats. If we changed the stat to say success. You could easily identify players who can complete objectives. So say if your needing to pick up someone up for a raid. If 2 players both have a high kd who do you chose? Now if one completes the raid 80% of the time and the other 30% you have a clear winner. To me kdr in a pve environment is just pointless anyway. Who cares what my kdr is for my own story mission? Edit: there seems to be some confusion. I'm not saying get rid of stats all together. Just remove the kdr stat from the equation. As of now after a match you get your total score and a break down of kills. So you would still score well with a high kd but would only see the score. Example. You go 4 and 6 in a match. However you took 7 controlled points. People would label you a "scrub" because you went negative. When actually you helped make the high kd people look better by increasing the point modifier for kills. You also helped your team win. Second edit. A different example. Player A goes 10 and 1. Kdr of 10. Scored 10000 points. Player B goes 5 and 10. Kdr of .5. However still scores 10000 points. They were taking and defending points. Kdr system. Player A is "good" player B is a "scrub" Points system. Player A and B scored equal. Both helped the team equal. Both were rewarded for their chosen play style. However player B is not judged negatively for their kdr status.

  • 5/6 of the PvP gamemodes are TDM variants, knowing your K/D is useful.

I believe k and d are both good stats to know the k/d is useless. Its always good to kill more then you die less its 100% objective based game like CTF or Odd ball or somthing The game type they had in beta was kD based It anoid me i couldn't see my deaths

How about the community stops being elitist shits everywhere, so that KDR no longer matters. Oh wait. People still play games like a job >.< Honestly what annoys me more is when people give three shits about their KDR in a gamemode where its completely irrelevant. Like Conquest in BF4. Ive gone 12-20, but had like 13k score and was at the top of the team board because i was rezzing people, healing them, and occasionally going engi for anti vehicle, or support for ammo.

    • What about, instead, have an overall stat, based on various stats that can be added in, like damage, revives, etc.

      • Stats are manipulatable, but players do need some kind of base line to compare the skills of one another. I certainly don't think it's a perfect system and their definitely is a better solution, but as of now it's the best they've got.

        • I agree I hate how people try super hard to get highest kd and then rub it others faces when they have a higher kd but did nothing for the team

        • Why not get rid of public stats. Seriously that's what ruined cod after mw2. People try super hard to camp and bump up they're stats.

          • Have to agree! Not blowing my own trumpet but I always have a high k/d but in games where capturing bases is key k/d plays near to no part. I'm the guy that goes for the win for my team not for me because I already know how good I am/can be. Example I might wanna be a defending Titan... I helped secure bases, prevented deaths and ressed but at the end screen where we won the game im bottom lol and too boot some lil runt who did nothing but kill and not contribute is top and flapping his gums lol

          • K/D should only be used in matchmaking, out of sight from the players. People alter the way they play when they can monitor their k/d ratios, but if you remove it from stats completely and use it exclusively behind the scenes for matchmaking purposes, people will play the game for the sole purpose of playing the game to have fun, rather than worrying about some report card they and everyone else can judge them by.

            • They could just wipe stats every Tuesday along with lockouts. This would give people the opportunity of posting their all time weekly high for those that like the recognition and everyone could review stats without needing to pad their stats because they know they'll be starting fresh the next week.

            • Ppl with bad kdr's hate the stat. While yes the stat is not the end all be all to player skill it is a component. If you cannot kill more times then you die you are useless to your team. I mean at least a 1.01 kdr.

              • Hmm GENERALLY cod does that but one thing I LOVED that black ops 1 did was that on the scoreboard they'd have k/d but they'd also have game mode related stuff like bomb plants, captures etc. I think EVERY FPS should have stats like that in game

A good idea... But, for some reason I do care about KDR. I strive for my 1.5 or better, but I also play objectives. I like the idea, but feel it adds an extra layer to PVP that keeps me coming back. Perhaps if kills were worth a lot less points... Or objectives more. Then the objective players would stand out as an actual asset. (wherein, they do not in most pvp fps games... at all)

                • There isn't that many objective modes in destiny besides salvage. Control is a kill based game mode. So I think the kdr stat is important.

                  • Agreed. I think kdr can really ruin games. Cod for example is all but measured on kdr. And to be fair thats partly down to youtubers posting beastly scores. Ppl dint feel they have had agood game unless they are 6kdr or some shizzle. I'm not very good at cod infact im bored of the franchise. So bored im not getting the new one. But I sit at an average kdr of 1.2ish at least I think its average. Doesn't bother me in the slightest.

                    • I agree, KDR is over emphasized. It does not really show skill acurately. Id like KDR to still be tracked and found in stats, but not as a central focus. Track it per mission, just like revives, flag captures, etc.

                      • The only stat I was bothered about was the one telling me how long I'd been playing the beta for. Nearly 24 hours! That's a whole day of my life gone! :( I think it'd be too depressing if I saw a stat telling me how many months I'd been playing a single game for! Maybe some things are better not known! Lol
