"That’s why Bungie isn’t supporting matchmaking for them; the developers don’t want them to be played by disparate groups of strangers." That's a quote from an interview today with IGN. I feel like this is going to backfire hard for Bungie. Locking substantial content because people might not have friends in their console? And with the no global/public chat in multiplayer, how are people supposed to make friends on Destiny? Some people play casually and aren't going to scour forums to find like minded players. All these systems are fighting against each other and it's going to turn a lot of people off.
