The auto rifle is a standard machine gun. Just because someone got lucky and got a great rifle is no one's fault. I'd they're so good, why don't you use one.

It's not really about luck of the draw though. Fundamentally the ARs need tweaks. The high RoF and critical bonus in ADDITION to working outside of their intended range is what makes this whole debate worthwhile. It'd be like if the shotgun could damage you from long range. That would be a problem if you had a tiny sliver of health and got killed by a shotgun from across the map while running for cover. Why? Because shotguns shouldn't damage you from across the map and everyone knows that. If people found a way to exploit that I promise you a patch would fix it. That is a shoddy example but you should get what I'm saying. The ARs currently get the best of all 3 features we look for when choosing a primary. Great range, high ROF and headshot bonus. It should not be this way. And I personally think either increased recoil AND damage drop off OR increased bullet spread would make it more balanced. The game should reward great control and burst fire. Right now it rewards you for holding the trigger and aiming at the neck.

  • "If they're so good, why don't you use one"? Do you seriously not realize how ridiculous this sentiment is? The various weapon types need to be competitive options - as it stands, auto-rifles are too effective (and in some cases get extremely rapid kills at ranges they should be far less than ideal at), while pulse rifles and hand cannons are at a serious deficiency.

  • I can't speak for everyone, and I most certainly do not "suck" at the Crucible; however, in their current state the Auto Rifles were clearly BETTER than the other guns in the game. I was able to adapt to the vehicles by 1) not being and idiot and trying to take them head on and 2) realizing how to use the turrets. I also think the supers in their current state are fine. But it is undeniable that the hand cannon and pulse rifles (and in some respect) the scout rifles did not have much of an advantage compared to ANY of the ARs and that my fellow Guardian is indeed a problem. This was honestly my only gripe in the game. I feel the ARs with a high RoF need some type of recoil increase or damage drop off at range in order to compensate for the RoF. But this is what is puzzling to me about what Bungie is trying to do. We know we can assume with almost 100 percent certainty that there is some crazy AR with no recoil and a huge impact and a giant clip and probably a scope or some BS. How can they balance a gun like that? Guess only time will tell.

It's not stats and weapons that give you a point, but your facts and reasoning. Though I think you'll find we're in agreement with regards to auto-rifles are too strong.

  • I entirely agree with you red I honestly applaud u for having a perspective like that. Some people have such simple logic it's no wonder that they just it's either or. The bullet spread is way to concise for being fired fully auto
