Hand Cannons Are Perfectly Fine

Just because you don't know how to use them doesn't mean the stats should be bumped up. If they are it'll become OP. Learn to use them and you won't have a problem. If they get a buff the players who are already good with them will be completely unstoppable.

  • One of my hobbies is marksmanship. I use the 1911 as my main platform. I like the increase mobility you get from a smaller weapon. And with the .45 calliber round you're protecting yourself at closer to mid-range fairly well. The .45 cal round has power, but it has disadvantages. So in shooters I enjoy using the pistols for that very reason. It's a challenge. And of course you don't bring a hand cannon into PvP. Rifle's are a far more stable platform in general. They have their disadvantages as well, but in all reality, the rifle is the better choice for overall protection, at just about every distance. So for me in the beta I used the auto-rifles in crucible (it was the only way I had a chance), pulse-rifles in story and the handcannon in explore (because it's awesome to explore with a hand cannon).. Handscannons belong in this game. They are awesome, but you're at a disadvantage in PVP. But who cares if we suck at them in the crucible? You respawn in a few seconds, go have fun. Great post..

    Okay - there are many post about hand cannons being under powered, and im sick of idiots comenting "they take skill to use" well so does a combat knife - its still inferior no matter how 'skilled' you are. the reason Hand Cannons are inferior is because they are beat on every occasion by other weapons. Now, if Hand Cannons had been designed as a back up weapon then they would be of use - but they are not designed to be a back up, there a PRIMARY weapon. I dont know about you guys - but the last gun on earth i would like to be shot with is a .44 Hand Cannon. I do think hand cannons will be better in PvE when we see higher level enemies with penalties (high impact weapons doing damage through sheilds) But in PVP (or atleased balanced PVP) there is no 'Logical reason' to chose a Hand cannon - unless your cannon fodder. Juat Saying !!!

    • People seem to be stopping at the math about 1/3 done. They just look at theoretical DPS without ever applying it to the actual game. Hand Cannons Suck if every enemy in the game was a level 2 Dreg, with low HP, No Armor and You could hit every shot you fired to their head and got a 1to1 shot/kill ratio. Actual DPS applies scaleing health, variable damage bonuses(some enemies only take 1.5 headshot damage), shields, missing your shot, landing a body shot, armor/defense, overkill damage, focus and gear bonuses.

      • They are on par in most stats to a scout rifle, just inferior in shots, ammo, fire rate, and range. That's not a good thing. I expect them to dominate PvE and Iron Banner pretty well, but in straight PvP, they weren't good enough.

              nope they are not (to explain why i think that way, i copypasta my post from another thread about them into here): i hate it when dev's think that it's ok to make Sci-Fi sidearms less powerful than Sci-Fi rifles - especially if they come as penalty-free choice for the same weapon-slot, using slot-binded ammo like in Destiny! but nope, the dev's seem to have thought "because it's the smaller gun, it would be totally obvious that one would have to sacrifice in every single aspect one could think of for this choice". that sucks! all they accomplished with that was nerfing style-diversity, as there isn't a single technical reason to put that thing into the primary slot over the scout-rifles, which either even - but mostly just surpass the hand-cannons in every single aspect! so, it's not that the hand-cannons would be necessarily bad or anything, it's just that during the beta they had literally no reason to exist other than to make you sacrifice strength in every single aspect of a gun for your enforcement of style diversity in your inventory through that choice - which is very, very bad and has to change, especially as there was only this one not "large boomstick" choice for all of the three slots combined during the beta!

              They are perfectly fine, they also serve the exact same roll with the exact same damage per shot, with lower fire rate, lesser range, and fewer shots than the scout rifle. Hence the problem. I had no difficulties using the hand cannon at all, it is just vastly inferior to the scout rifle.

                If a skilled person [i]learns[/i] how to use a hand cannon, that same person would get destroyed by another skilled person who also [i]learns[/i] how to use an auto rifle. Hand cannon allows for zero mistakes when facing nearly any opponent, while auto rifle can spray a little here and there and still get the kill. Hand cannons really suck, I used one during the beta and I could only get kills if I snuck up behind a guy, or just used my special/super/heavy I'm just talking PVP, Hand cannon wrecked during strikes as most enemies were 1-3 shot kills.

              • I ran numerous strikes during the Beta using a hand cannon, and led with kills and such almost every time. it's more or less just who's holding the cannon.

                • They deserve a better crit modifier. Less bullets than a scout which is the only comparison in the main weapon class and requires more skill at range to get headshots. Follow up shots require more skill and then every 6rounds your reloading. Time=valuable dps. Not much of a boost to crits but maybe an extra .5%

                • I agree that, in the beta, hand cannons were pretty much outclassed by scout rifles across the board. But that doesn't mean it wasn't a blast to use. :)

                    I really didn't approve of the reload speed and ammo for hand cannons. Certain boss fights like the spider tank I went though ammo way to quick and even used most of my secondary ammo before the reinforcements would show up some fights. Up the reload speed or the amount of ammo it carries and I think it will be a much better weapon.

                  • It's fine in Pve... Pvp is where real problems start... With 6 bullets in a chamber multikills become difficult even for skilled players. If given the choice... I would go with a scout.

                  • I don't like that it's about (for example) 35 damage per shot with 6 bullets max. While a auto,pulse,scout rifle with the same damage out fire it in terms of rate of fire. No idea what "impact" is but know hand cannons high impact
