2014-15 Flood Fantasy Football League

Ladies and gentlemen, it is time for the 2014-15 flood fantasy football league. Anyone interested in joining this year's league, please say so in this thread. We will be limiting the teams to 12 so the player pool doesn't run too dry, so first come first served. Newbies and veterans alike are welcomed and I'll gladly help out anyone new to fantasy football if they need it. All I ask is that if you commit to joining, you actually play the entire season. Nothing sucks more than having a team go inactive in the middle of the season. This will be hosted on NFL.com and is a PPR league. After the teams are established, I will PM out league invitations and passwords. I will be sending each of you a PM with the league ID and password momentarily. Please take a moment to make sure you can get in and everything is kosher. If you are having problems getting in, please use this thread to ask questions since Bnet's PM system is questionable at best atm. After you receive my PM, follow THIS LINK to register with the league (does not work on mobile). If you do not already have an NFL.com account, you'll have to create one before you can join. Once you're in, the league has a message board similar to this one where other discussion about the league can be held. See you there!

Here's a little beginners guide I wrote up a couple years ago. Updated all the links for relevance.
After seeing some people in our league with little or no prior experience, and wanting as level a playing field as possible for the season, I thought I'd take a moment and compile some basic info for those who may need it. Preparing for draft day First, let's take a look at the league settings (You'll need to be logged in for this link to work.) Much of this should be pretty self explanatory, but it's important to read and understand the scoring system prior to making your picks. A few things I want to mention are.. First, this is a Points Per Reception(PPR) league. Meaning every completed reception will give your receiver an additional point. This is important because, while most people instantly want that flashy superstar receiver that gets three or four TD's a game, in a PPR league it's often just as beneficial to pick up that lesser known "go to" guy. The guy who may not see the endzone once a game, but gives you nice numbers in hard fought catches and yards. Teams prepare when facing superstars, often leaving the 2nd or 3rd WR to have great days. Next, I want to explain waivers. Waivers are a system set up to allow people to pick up players dropped by other teams in the league. Our league is set for Tuesdays. This means that all players dropped during that week are put into a waiver pool. On Tuesday, the team with the lowest standings will have the first opportunity to pick up one of these players if they so desire. Once he chooses a player, or passes the opportunity, the next lowest team then has their pick. It continues until all players in the pool are gone, or until each team has had a chance. Any unpicked players are then returned to the free agent pool where anyone can claim them. Draft Day (ZOMG WHO DO I PICK!?!) IMPORTANT NOTE: Long before the draft, NFL.com will rank every player in the league by fantasy value. This value is an estimate of how well that player is expected to play that year. If you love football, but don't necessarily know who every player on every team is.. that's fine. When it's your turn to draft, you'll be suggested a player based on that ranking from the reaming players available. So if you have no idea who the remaining guys are.. just pick whoever the computer suggests to you and you'll be fine. Now, there are two basic strategies when drafting.. Best in Slot, and Best on the Board. Best in slot means that your first priority is to fill each starting slot(QB, WR, RB, etc) with the best person available at the time. The order in which you decide to fill these slots will vary from person to person, though many choose something close to this order: RB, RB, QB, WR/RB, WR, WR, TE, DEF/ST, K, then fill in your bench players. The up side to BIS drafting is that you typically end up with a nicely balanced team. The down side is that your bench will suffer from lack of depth. Best on the board means you pick up the best player available without regard for filling certain slots. BoB drafters often find themselves with a surplus of quality players, but may not have an elite player in each position. Usually resulting in high caliber players sitting on their bench for most of the season, but having more options to decide who to start each week based on the team they're facing and lots of depth if one of their players gets injured. The up side to BoB drafting is, as stated above, you end up with a surplus of quality players in certain positions. Your star wide out facing a very stout secondary this week? No problem, you have someone you can confidently replace him with. Season ending injury? Yep. You're prepared for that. The down side to this is that BoB drafters tend to find themselves scrambling to trade with other teams because they didn't get that QB when he was available and got stuck with Tim Tebow. It's important to note that if you allow the computer to make your picks for you, BoB is what you'll be getting. Okay, I drafted. Now what? Set up your starters. Take a moment to see who each of your players are facing during the first week of play. Use what knowledge you have of your players and the teams they're facing to make the best educated guess as to who should make it into play, and who rides the pine. NFL.com provides several features for helping you pick which players to start each week. Newbies should use them liberally. General tips and advice First and foremost.. If you signed up, play. There's nothing worse than having someone dick out on the league a few games in. It pisses everyone off. So don't do it. Show up for the draft. If you don't, then don't cry about your auto picks. Always, always, always draft your kicker last, and your DEF/SP just before. Seems obvious, but you'd be surprised... Click this link to test the draft client. It insures that all your plug-ins are up to date and ready for draft day. Use mock drafts to get yourself accustomed to how the system plays out. Pay attention to bye weeks when drafting. It will do you no good to have all your QB's, RB's, etc on their bye at the same time.
