Add a Text Chat to the Tower!!!!
I don't understand how texting chat isn't available in the tower. Leave it out of PVP, Raids, Strikes, Explore and everything else. BUT PUT IT IN THE TOWER! After all it's the "Social Hub". Not every button on the remote is utilized in the tower. So just make a button like Circle, or R2, or whatever to bring up a typing window. I can't imagine this being hard to add to the game. Have a chat window, and also "bubbles" over your characters head when you speak. This would make the tower a real social hub.

If left unmoderated, it could (and likely would) become the same unproductive trolling nonsense that pushed people away from WoW. The tower only holds 16 guardians at a time (I think). I say give an area of the tower that those interested could go to in which to participate. That way if someone is a troll, he's right in front of you (not hidden behind a box in a basement of an unused building somewhere in the city).

2 RepliesText Chat in the Tower and in Explore mode would be very good. Alot of mmo's have it already, I think DCU online has it too (not 100% on that tho).

Defiance did the social set up right. Just take their chat box for the tower.

2 RepliesIt's amazing that some people actually want no text chat at all. As if by including it in the game everyone would be forced against their will to type. Bungie would be stupid not to include proximity and voice chat and give players no options to mute others (those options are already there actually). If you don't want to type or talk then don't type or talk. Don't say it shouldn't be an option to players simply because you don't want to use it even though it's something the vast majority is requesting.

Yeah, i dont see why they dont just enable open wordl communication like voice and text chat, and give people the option to turn it off. If they did this i would have no problem with lack of Matchmaking in Raids, see link.

3 RepliesText chats in mmo's are a breeding ground got trolls and idiots. It would be worse since the game has no monthly fee unless they stayed on top of it with moderators. All female player models would be subject to harassment.. I already saw evidence of this in the beta every time is went to the tower. Party chat, or muteable voice chat. No public tower text chat.

4 RepliesI say add a room for those in the tower who want to voice chat. And one for those who want to text chat. Just one area where voice chat is enabled. So I can find people to befriend and form fire teams clans etc etc.

This would be great! One thing I had a problem with online on any match or level I was on, is that I couldn't talk to anyone. Even people on my friends list tho.

Not sure about the bubbles. Would look kinda weird. But I fully agree with a chat window for the tower. It's like an MMO RPG but the basic feature is missing...

You can hide the chat window, ignore spammers, and report the offensive, but at the same time see a bubble over a persons head when they speak. That way if someone is actually directing a conversation at you, you'll notice it. I don't believe we need it on any of the other modes. Especially PVP. Make the tower a hub. Where if I have a question. I can ask someone about it quickly. Not highlight someone's name, look at their profile, send them a message. That takes way too long.

Microsoft and Sony need to make chat pads similar to what the 360 had. Snap to controller and have a button to bring up an in game text box like u see in other MMOs. Text chat could be used in the tower and while exploring.
