The console can't take it. Its to big a space to render what could be two totally different areas at once. After playing the beta I changed my mind on split screen and find it just does not have a place in destiny, though I originally thought it should have it.

But that's the thing, it doesn't have to render two different areas at the same time. You could easily force both players to be in the same area as each other and make it to where they both have to be in the same transfer zone (the long corridors between open spaces) in order to go to another area. It's a fix that Halo has done as well. This alludes to Bungie's reason that they don't want to "tether" guardians together and let people go wherever they want... but that's not important to people who splitscreen. When you decide to splitscreen, you're actively making the choice to spend your playtime right next to another player, and forcing two people who are splitscreening to be in the same area as each other is not only expected, it's preferred. When have you ever sat down with a splitscreen/local co-op game and said "Yeah, no. I don't actually want to do the same thing as you, so I'll just wander off in this direction." If you've heard that, then I think you should get better co-op partners. The very essence of playing a co-op game with someone is to be "tethered" to each other, otherwise what's the point of playing together in the first place?

Personally disagree with the tether thing. If I'm playing destiny I want to be able to go where ever without being pulled back by someone else. It's not a point a to b game. Pve is meant to be explored and personally I don't want anything holding me to one location. Also it isn't like halo at all so idk why people keep on comparing it to halo...

And you have the option to never ever ever see a split screen in your entire life while playing Destiny. Because it would be an optional feature. If you feel tethered by a second player on your console, then you don't have to play with anybody. If split screen was a feature available in Destiny, players like you would never know that it existed. And considering the studio that made Halo is making Destiny, you can't avoid people comparing the two games. Fighting the inevitable comparisons is useless. I'm not saying Destiny is like halo at all. I'm saying that the split screen feature they tried to implement into halo 3 was talked about openly with the fans. Bungie was completely honest and outright said 4 player campaign co op didn't work, and they wouldn't put it in the game. With Destiny, they haven't come out and said split screen was technologically impossible, so they are clearly not even attempting to implement the feature.

Edited by SJCKen: 8/12/2014 2:48:22 AMThough I agree that of they implemented it I wouldn't care but I'd prefer them work on content rather then push split screen I suppose. But that's just me Edit: sorry I meant wouldn't care.

Adding split screen should be no more taxing on their manpower than the PC port they're working on. In fact it should be incredibly simple compared to porting. The reason they are porting Destiny to PC is because they want to reach as many players as possible (and the PC community whined and moaned about it for EVER). I think split screen would increase their fan base. Take my situation as an example. There's a very real possibility that I won't get Destiny at all because I can't play with my wife. However, if Bungie were to say something like "Hey, we're working on split screen for a patch/DLC/Destiny 2." I would be satisfied and go get the game. I don't expect them to try and include split screen for launch, because that's ridiculous. I just want them to give it a try because their reasoning is backwards and not at all like the Bungie I grew up with.
