Why raids should Not have LFR

I’m honestly perplexed as to why so many people are up in arms over Raids not having LFR (looking for raid). Here are some reasons I think people are upset. 1. They feel entitled because they are spending money on this game. I am sorry to say that this only entitles you to having the chance to play it, not how the game should be made or what you want to see. Also think about how many other games those on consoles have spent $60 on yet only received a quick campaign and multiplayer. I’d suggest being grateful. 2. They have never had previous raid or MMO experience. Raids are endgame content. This means that they are built to be hard and almost impossible to beat. The reason for this is because now you have a reason to come back time and time again until you beat it. 3. They didn’t realize Bungie was being serious about placing so much importance on teams and clans not only in the weekly updates, but throughout Bnet as well. If you go back throughout the past weekly updates you will see a pattern upon the importance for teams. Bungie also created a website where you can create and manage your own clan. Clans even have their own forums. 4. They may just be lazy or don't have the time. I understand some people are to busy or have life schedules to hectic to be able to be on at certain times so as to beat raids. If raids are as hard as Bungie is making them out to be then they will require long hours. If that is so then I am sorry to say that you will most likely not be getting it done even with pugs. Here are some opinions I have as to why raids should not have LFR. 1. Raids with LFR reduced the difficulty and severely cuts any satisfaction from beating it. 2. Raids reward those that read the signs and prepared for release. 3. Raids reward teams and clans for coordination and communication. 4. Raids are endgame content and should be as difficult as possible. 5. Raids will be extremely hard and will therefore take long amounts of time. Wasting it with people that don’t learn or are unable to handle it is frustrating. 6. Raids should not be for the casual, but for those with the desire and commitment to beat the game. 7. Raids are far more fun with friends. I laugh a heck of a lot more with friends then people I’m thrown into with the matchmaking system. 8. Bungie is building this game with several experiences including the social side.

There are just 2 "words": "solo gamers" and money. Solo gamers must have access to all content and good gear. If not from raid then other way. Try to google how many people play raid. For example, in WoW it's ~20%. And it has chats and all that staff. How many people play raids in destiny? Even less. But WoW has LFR, and 65% users use it! If there will be no content for solo players, they will not buy expansions and next parts of Destiny. I don't think Bungie wants to lose millions of dollars.

  • All content should be accessible by everyone who bought the game. everyone that wants an LFR system (in game) or matchmaking for raids just wants the option of being able to play the endgame content. and everyone saying that randoms don't/won't work is full of crap, every raid ive ever done in other MMO's was with randoms. It's not like all the groups of friends never wiped in the VoG, and who cares if a group of randoms wipes 30 damn times before they beat it or progress further, at least they get to try. All people want is the option to access the content that they paid for. (Having to go outside of a game to put together a group of people is just -blam!-ing lazy on Bungie's part. they really couldn't put in a chat system???)

  • i believe there should be lfr. its too damn hard to find a party considering most ppl i know playing this is still on ps3. the lfr should be kind of how wow is, the harder difficulty the better the gear. so what if you beat the raid in lfr. it should be in basic lfr you would only get basic raid gear. and if you have friends how is lfr effecting who u play with? u would still be able to stay in your fire team and still have the lfr option to fill in the gap. im kinda of all over the place but my point is lfr should be an option. it shouldnt effect anything if you already have a fireteam. if anything if you have a well coordinated fireteam of friends then why would it matter to you if there is lfr or not. and for a last note there barely is a social side to destiny. if say they had a chatroom it would make the game way more socialble rather than spamming ppl with msges for raids. if you played wow you would know what im trying to get at here.

  • at #8 what social side are you taking about unlike most MMOs Destiny has NO TEXT or proxy chat so its tough to find people for a raid I'm glad theres no matchmaking for raids but not having any kind of in game chat is really a fail on Bungies part

  • Raids aren't just random instances. They take careful planning. An unplanned raid can go very wrong, very quickly and when that happens it can turn into absolute anarchy. Best place to gather gamers for a raid? Right here. May I suggest the moderators create a forum specifically for raids. As long as players stick to what is planned (dates, times, tactics and player specific roles) then raids will he fun.

I will tell you right now the reason why there is no matchmaking for raids. Let's say for the sake of argument that they did have matchmaking for raids. You click the 'join raid' button, and it searches for players. All of a sudden you join a game that's already 3 hours into the raid. 6 randoms went into a raid together, and one quit out after a few hours because he didn't like his team-mates. The chance of randoms quitting out is extremely high on a raid that lasts for hours, and it would be unfair for the remaining team to have to finish the raid a man short. But it would also be unfair to let someone join a raid that's already in progress. Say you're that guy who joins the raid 3 hours in. Either there are no penalties, and you get the same rewards but for less work (In which case I could totally see people quitting out of raids until they find one that's halfway through). Or there is a penalty, and you get pissed off that you can't get as good gear as everyone else (If I joined a raid 3 hours in and there were penalties then I'd just quit out to find one that hasn't started yet). Both scenarios aren't fair to people that want to play the game legit. Basically there are no positives to having raid matchmaking, other than to save time. But if saving time for players means creating a system that will piss a lot of people off (Not just any people either, the hardcore players for which the end-game content is tailored for i.e. people who will buy the DLC), then that would be a bad move on Bungie's part. Hence why there is no matchmaking for raids.

        • Add matchmaking and give everyone a chance to experience all content. 9/10 that public group might fail but so what? Clans will clear it, solo players can experience it. What is the point in defending not adding a feature?? Put it in let the gamers choose.

        • I'm glad they aren't putting matchmaking. Seemed like when doing strikes in the bets I was always carrying my group and having to revive others constantly without the favor being returned. When raiding I want to be with the bedt group possible as to not have to share the spoils with some half wit

But bro..I don't wanna play with randoms ... ask for people on b.net or wait in a matchmaking system is the same bullshit, and you can use b.net anytime u want. Bungie remove the matchmaking system for absolutely no reason at all, if u don't want to play with random, use b.net .... what so hard ? Seem like Bungie had an idea for a different matchmaking system .... but were out of time and simply say : let's force them to use that App and forums. No one want to use an other system to look for something when everything can be done in the game itself.

            • 1. The same can be said for supporters of no matchmaking 2. Just because it's called a raid does not make it a raid like a true MMO's raid. It will not require you to learn sometimes up to 15 abilities or more, rotations and dealing with up to 25 people, sometimes more, sometimes less. 3. Yeah, that's cool. I don't see how MM diminishes this though. 4. That's not up to you to decide if someone wants to try though, is it. If people want to subject themselves to matchmaking and the negative parts about it, than it's their own problem and time wasted. They will regardless of matchmaking.
Raids with LFR reduced the difficulty and severely cuts any satisfaction from beating it.
Can you elaborate please? I'd like to know how that is exactly The rest of your reasons aren't affected by matchmaking and aren't worth responding to. You still reap all the benefits of joining up with a clan or making friends. I will respond to this though.
Raids should not be for the casual, but for those with the desire and commitment to beat the game.
I got news for you, the game will be made up of 90% casual people. If your definition of casual is having a job and family etc. Also, just because you join a clan doesn't make you hardcore and privileged enough to be the only ones to play this content. There will be LOADS of people joining random groups on forums like this and places like reddit to tackle this content. It's not going to stop most people.

I'm going to go a little further and say... Look at Random Arena for Guild Wars.. Then look at all the non-random Arenas in Guild Wars.. Although I doubt there would be an issue with a game like Destiny. When it comes to RPG's that have clear defined roles like Tank, DPS, Healer... Random isn't necessarily better, but it ensures that the other 90% of players who have a passing interest in that content, are able to get an actual game, instead of being turned away by every party leader requiring them to be a very specific class, role and rank. If Guild Wars had managed an 8v8 Random Arena, instead of just a 4v4 Random Arena..... I'd still be playing that game, even through all the horrendous lag it has now. If it wasn't for Random Arena. Alot of Mesmer Builds would never have attained any kind of status in PVP. Because no one would have allowed them to be in the party because they don't fill one of those "pre-defined" roles. But because of Random, players were able to experiment and some powerful self reliant/team builds came out of there.

This sounds more like a problem with u. Why r u playing with randoms anyways if u have Soooo many friends. Randoms are not bad, most likely they r new to the game. Anyways, since matchmaking teams loose most of the time, the one of the few matchmaking team that wins the raid deserves the items.Who is in control of nerfing? Bungie. So if the nerf has been released, it is bungie'a fault for succumbing.

                • Having match making for raids will not prevent 6 friends who want to play together from doing so. If a group of match made players will fail the raid bc of the coordination needed, then so be it ( assuming MM group doesn't communicate).

This is my suggestion that I posted earlier, why not make both Public Raid's and Private Raid's?? Public Raid's would be filled by Matchmaking and you would either get placed in a new Raid that was just starting or you'd be spawned in at save points of existing Raid's to take the place of players that dropped out and continue the fight. The levels of the enemies and bosses in Public Raid's would be set lower so that everyone can take part in the content without being completely overwhelmed but yet still get the enjoyment of completing higher skill activities after finishing the Story Mode. The rewards for playing in Public Raid's will simply be a step up from playing Strikes and the Explore modes but nothing like the Exotic weapons and armor in Private Raid's or the Iron Banner events. Then you'll have the Private Raid's where Matchmaking is disabled and you have to bring your own team, the level of difficulty is set much higher, and the rewards therefore also scale to match. Private Raid's will be a place for clans to go and prove their worth outside of just the Crucible and Iron Banner and there could even be a Clan Ranking for Private Raid's. There's no reason why they can't do both and appease everyone instead of just a select crowd. http://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/67112034/0/0
