Microsoft didn't do the same thing with their third and current console. They've innovated and responded to the requests of the fan base.

 • Microsoft gave into the arrogance brought on by success. The xbox one wasn't more expensive because of bluray technology it was at the $499 price point because of their insistence to include the kinect. Their insistence on DRM policies were also a bad move. I could never figure out why MS thought this sort of regulation was needed for console. They made extremely unpopular moves which garnered criticism all over the gaming community/industry. Which explains why Microsoft has since made a complete 180° on their policies. I'm glad they did a 180, I think their current course is not only more beneficial and positive to the gaming community at large but it also frees up the xbox community from unneeded limitations.

 • They were trying to innovate by bringing in the digital age of gaming, similar to how the majority of PC gaming is done these days. Sure, they had a few bad policies, but the community overreacted about them. The Kinect being included was them trying to push yet another innovation and change how we game. Yeah, they had their own issues, but they sure as hell were not the arrogance issues that Playstation was experiencing with the PS3. Of they were, the Xbox One would just be a more powerful version of the Xbox 360. They wouldn't have tried to innovate because they could "rest on their laurels".

 • Arrogance is when you can't connect the dots and figure put something isn't a good idea. Ms pushed the kinect during a time in US society where there was a fever pitch about companies forming "Prism" a collusion of companies like google, Microsoft and Apple that agreed to hand over all the data they collected from their users to the government. To follow up these head lines the Xbox team announced that the kinect would use facial recognition, and the camera would always be on. Microsoft bungled things, they were arrogant and thought people would go along with them with little justification. Look at what happened within the upper management of the Xbox division? They went through two people before Spencer took over. Ms central made heads roll for the mistake. And DRM is a giant disaster! Time and time again Different Devs have tried to implement DRM initiatives only to be shown it's a complete debacle. EA and Ubisoft are two large examples. There is plenty of criticism out there against DRM, there's nothing innovative about forcing people to log in online to verify game possession. It would make not only your system but your games completely useless without internet.

 • ... They were trying to expand the capabilities of the Xbox to turn it into something more than just a console. That's not arrogant, that's taking a risk. It would be arrogant if it were completely unreasonable. The fans spoke up, and so Microsoft reversed their decision on the matter. That's hardly arrogant.

 • Arrogance : an attitude of superiority manifested in an overbearing manner or in presumptuous claims or assumptions That article lays everything out clear cut stats and observations. Admittedly they had some good ideas but they were executed poorly and did not live up to the hype.

 • I just don't see it. They tried something different, it didn't work, and it got changed. It's not like the basically just made an upgraded version of the prior console and charged a huge amount of money for it.

 • The kinect itself is quite sophisticated and complex it's a great motion camera. I can't argue that my point lies in the realm of there really being no demand for it and it having little support at launch (even now) only 3 Kinect titles that use motion I think are just dance , fight night and Kinect rivals... I want to believe they were doing it for innovations sake but I can't shake the feeling they were too busy telling people what they were "supposed to want" rather than what they actually wanted

 • Their marketing suggested they were trying to expand beyond the console/gamer demographic and hit the entertainment center/general public demographic. It included games, but it was supposed to be more than that. They took a risk and it did't work. It would have been a bit arrogant if it has been marketed exclusively towards gamers.
