Excellent post, QC. Reminds me of those well-written/thought out posts that hit NeoGAF from time to time and I mean that endearingly. I, too, would like saplitscreen. I would love to play this game with my son and as it stands, I will be hogging the PS4 while I am not at work. We MIGHT get a PS3 version but that means we won't cross paths and still can't play together which is a huge bummer. As far as counter arguments or arguments AGAINST split screen: The fidelity might get hurt. The engine might not be set up for that much input at a given time. I don't know how this shit works but I know it wouldn't be easy to implement and, for one, would swear by Bungie and be overwhelmingly impressed if fan feedback caused them to actually implement this. As of now, I don't expect it though.

  • You're correct, we don't really know how this engine works. And I would be entirely silenced if Bungie were to just outright say "Splitscreen doesn't work with Destiny's engine technologically." That would be the end of the discussion. From an outsider's perspective with a rapidly growing understanding of several coding languages, I can't see a way that would cause Destiny to struggle with two players on a single console. Even on 360, the game was smooth as jazz and had very few (if any) stuttering that I couldn't immediately tell was server lag. Granted the graphics are toned down here, but the graphics aren't the issue that would occur in splitscreen. You seem to have read my post, so in short, it's because everything is pre-rendered, which makes graphics for splitscreen a non-issue. The only thing that could slow stuff down is the server connection with two profiles on a single console. But if the 360 handles Destiny's connection like a pro, I find it hard to believe the Xbox One would have any problems with two connections. Bungie might impress you. They're badass like that. It's one of the main reasons I am even doing this, because they watch and listen. I don't expect a launch day implementation of splitscreen. Expecting that is a ludicrous idea. But I would really appreciate them reconsidering their design choice later on through some DLC, a patch, or possibly just in Destiny 2. And thank you for the kind words. I'm just trying to get a civil conversation going about a topic that's really imperative to my personal reservations about Destiny.
