life steal killing a enemy while energy drain is active restores a " significant portion " if your health.
From the talent calculator on destinydb: "Killing an enemy with Energy Drain immediately restores a significant portion of your health." Very similar but the key word "with" instead of "while active". These mean two very different things. From what I can tell it seems you have to use your melee while the cooldown is up to gain the life steal effect. This would limit the warlocks tanking ability greatly if this was true. Meaning in order to gain the health you would have to use your melee attack and kill an enemy and only then would you gain health back. I read some of the posts and it seemed like you were saying any kills while Energy Drain was active would result in health restored. Would love to hear your thoughts or counter-arguments.

I still got the bonuses even tho the skill was ok " cool down" because it has a duration and it can be extended. Second. Enter the void + a full strength build would Basically let you have every drain + grenades always up because it( or just armor that kills reduce you melee cool down ) Trust me bungie a wording is very clear. This is how it wil work The fact there is an exsoric helm based around this build ( link below ) conferms this build

 •
Trust me bungie a wording is very clear.
Yes, it is very clear. Hitting an enemy with Energy Drain will grant you the reduced cooldown no matter what. What you don't gain is the secondary effect. For example, if you used a normal melee attack (while your Energy Drain skill was on cooldown) to kill an enemy you don't receive the Surge bonus that we were able to unlock during the beta. Since Life Steal and Surge are in the same skill line, I would assume they work the same way. If your reasoning was correct then warlocks would have an almost unlimited speed boost, life steal, or a nova bomb with a very short cooldown (Soul Rip). You may be able to acquire armor reducing your melee skill but the "build" you are talking about is all about your grenade skill. Nova Bomb and your grenade will only further reduce your next grenade, not grant you bonuses from other skill lines. This is why I don't believe Warlocks will be able to tank as good as Titans. Sunsinger might come close but not Voidwalker. Also spell check is your friend :)

 • I would agree with you. Energy drain is the name of the charged up melee attack for the warlock. So it would seem be balanced if the health steal is only when the melee attack is charged and you kill an opponent with the attack.

 • yea I tested it with the "energy drain reduces grenade cooldown" or what it was. It only works when your energy drain is full charged (like when the throwing knife for the hunter is ready) and you melee and enemy and kill him with this hit. otherwise it would be OP as hell ^^ oh and I dont think that warlocks will be that tanky anyway. it's the lowest armored class so there is something to keep them alive ;) and I don't even know yet how much of "tankability" a FPS sooter can have. dodging/kiting ftw

 • You will gain the Energy Drain effect (reduced cooldown on your grenade) no matter if you kill the enemy or not. The only thing that requires you to kill an enemy while Energy Drain is charged is the secondary effect, be it Surge, Life Steal or Soul Rip.

 • Yeah the only tank ability I can see is the warlock's radiance ability. And that is only for a short time. So I agree with you that warlocks won't be so tanky. Besides, in a fps game, players can put out a lot of damage in a short amount of time so maybe be able to take only a couple of more hits than normal.
