So the fires on the moon (smoke rolling out of crack in background) how do they exist if the moon has no oxygen. (Oxygen is a requirement to make fire)

  • Possible explanations: Chemical reactors producing oxygen. Underground horticulture facilities. As mentioned below, zombie farts. Maybe they produce oxygen instead of methane. Or, going out on a limb... Moon Wizards.

  • The Traveler is also a terraformer, so it gave the Moon an atmosphere to support life.

  • Yes but an atmosphere doesn't have to consist of oxygen and if it does have oxygen and people are using it the oxygen is converted to carbon dioxide by our bodies... Without plants to reform the used oxygen the moon couldn't keep oxygen in their atmosphere for a long period of time due to continual use... Kind of like taking a sip of a glass of water... Except every time you take a sip unusable liquid fills from the bottom..

  • There's not going to be many living things on the moon to use it up.

  • Not sure if the hive uses oxygen or not... But they are all there

Well, obviously the moon does have O2 in its atmosphere (since there's fire...), and has a way of replenishing it, as of yet unknown to us. Oxygen-producing superbacteria in the soil, perhaps?

  • That's possible but I was just saying I personally so no vegetation that would've created oxygen...

  • Ok it looks cool, but in a game with space magic do you really want scientific accuracy?

  • Nope just picking at the game a bit and making a pretty funny chain of replies

  • Could be some chemical reaction happening below the surface creating the oxygen/necessary fuel to create the fire, same way you can have a blowtorch operating underwater; completely self-contained.

  • Underwater torches are an amazing advancement in technology. First you have to understand how a flame works - it requires a combustable substance and an oxidizer. A candle, for example, has wax as the combustable and oxygen as the oxidizer. Now, when you're underwater the necessary components need to be supplied by hoses leading to the torch. The hoses might supply hydrogen and oxygen, then bam, we've got fire. Now the tricky part, to keep the flame stable, a bubble needs to surround the flame. Jets of compressed air surround the top of the torch, which protects the flame from surrounding waters. Googled this didn't know how underwater blowtorches worked

  • Wax holds the combustible, it isn't the combustible (more accurately fuel) it self. Also chemical reaction of O2 and H2 expels heat as energy. Here's the balanced formula: O2 + 2(H2) + Energy = 2(H20) + Energy It requires energy to break up H2O into separate parts, but when they are joined they release energy (heat). This balances the equation. So heat from a candle and heat from an underwater torch are two different things.

  • It could be another gas or fusion like in the sun and stuff

  • That's possible but that wouldn't produce smoke

  • It is said in game or in a video that the traveler put a light atmosphere on the moon.

  • You would still need plants to sustain oxygen in the atmosphere...

  • I was under the impression that the traveler teraformed Venus and Mars so the moon would of at least been given an atmosphere. Either way explosions can happen in space without oxygen. But sustained fires in space...I dont think so.

  • To have oxygen on the moon you would still need plants and the moon had no trees or anything so unless the traveler had a fix all solution to the moons lack of oxygen and reproduction of oxygen the moon wouldn't still have it... Venus could sustain oxygen because it is covered in water and plants not sure about mars yet...

It's a ball of plasma in which a continuous fusion reaction fueled by hydrogen takes place, producing helium. No fire or oxygen involved.
