What the Open World Needs

I believe making the open world feel more "Open" it needs a few things. Add whatever you believe it needs too. 1. Wildlife: I saw this moments ago and it got me thinking that it would make the world feel more alive. 2. Camps and/or caravans: Adding machines like the ones from the tower to distribute missions and possibly even make minor trades of some sort possible. 3. Weather: Changing weather would make the world seem more real and offer a new feel to the combat in roam making it feel more realistic in a way. And preferably regionally appropriate weather. Edit: the wildlife would not be what we have today but twisted creatures from the hive that look like animals roaming the planets and moons that they inhabit. And the camps or caravans could have guardians protecting the machines. Apparently people take these posts as demands for extreme content changes so I'll say this. These are only my ideas for what could be added in the future at some point not for what needs to be done by release. Please no comments stating that anyone has a bad idea, if you're not being positive you're being a hinderance.

    • NPCs.., noncombat NPCs. Roaming people who haven't made it to the tower yet... Public events where you could talk to them and protect them as the get to some sort of transport to the City.

    • Given the amount of down votes on people who agree with this, I say someone doesn't like the thought of something to make this game get better.

I definitely want more stuff happening in the open world... Other than a HUGE variety of battle styles and bosses I would like to see many NON-battle events added even if we witness it once in a blue moon like: -Wildlife or Alien creatures running by in large herds, stampeding, loudly -A huge fleet of spaceships flying by ("crap are those enemies, wait no Guardians!!! Where are they heading? Why?) -A huge creature walk by that we do not alert or mess with, just let it pass by or hide! -Large sky event like Eclipse, meteor shower, space battle in the sky -Large Guardian Gladiator-like events maybe with real pvp happening in explore mode or a fight to the death. Or a guardian takes on a boss while everyone else watches or cheers. -Natural planetary destruction once in a blue moon like plates grinding, volcanic-like events or something that reminds us of harsh dynamic universe -Dynamic Weather or Storms that occasionally show up These events would come in to break up the typical explore mode just like a public event but will be a nice dramatic cool thing to witness and say "wow " that was awesome. I wonder what tomorrow will bring. I can't wait to come back or tell my friends what I just saw!" It doesn't have to be constant just once in awhile or even once per day or every few hours at most, we would see something new and epic happen. Even an occasional RARE event could happen each month or two to create a kind of "lore" for players to pass on like "I was actually THERE when that happened!" That makes it more random and we'd appreciate it more. It would also feel more like a living, real world if it was random and varied.

      • Outposts      -massive public event to reclaim outpost on earth, then the moon, then Venus, mars, etc.      -after public event, update (hotfix) is pushed out adding outpost to the area *permanently      -outpost is populated with a few quest givers, guards, vehicle bays, maybe a vendor or two if it made sense      -Quest givers provide meaningful contextual quest chains preferably tailor made to the area, that make gradual, visible and noticeable changes to the outposts over time. Adding new buildings or NPCs along the way.      -Guards would fend off incoming patrols of enemies, and help out nearby guardians dragging a fight into the outpost.(xp gains are virtually dropped completely if a guard kills something for you, based on %of damage done?)      -use instancing (player pool separation?) to separate players by progress along quest lines (when major events happen that would change terrain or NPCs, etc.,)      -vehicles respawn on a timer and or player  buys a vehicle (destroyable pikes and interceptors, etc (?hopefully more to come?)) for a small amount of glimmer.

        • The open worlds the most barren and least interactive world I've ever seen in a game not to mention really small and uninteresting, just about makes me sick to have to collect any materials in them

        • What about cameras and some stealth needed through buildings and something to challenge jumping and gliding abilities like towers with rewards on top of them and keys to collect to open hidden passages or caverns with rewards in them and pike races and remote factions to be discovered, I think the caravans are a good idea. The patrol missions need work too, they are way to mindless, they could be a bit more puzzle like or specific and not just involve shooting things or scanning something, they could involve some of the things I suggested above

        • The weather mechanic was mentioned as a feature prior to release but apparently never made it to the final copy. Aside from that, this game is truly the worst Open World design from a AAA company I have ever seen. This games "open world" is simply a linear Halo mission with no checkpoints so you can freely walk from one area to the next. You cannot even fly over mountains or scale to the top of buildings because of all the invisible walls and limits. The only way to enter from one area to the next is through some narrow passage. It's quite pathetic. BUT in it's current state they could still do so much more to bring it alive. Here is a thread I made way back to contribute to this: "Massive AI battles" https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/152078841/0/0 Note: I have not played TTK, so I cannot say whether it's improved but from all the gameplay I've seen, it's pretty the same thing.

        • Honestly, I don't know what makes such games fun. Exploring is part of it, but there's not much of that in Destiny, if Old Russia is much to go by. My favourite open-world game ever is Skyrim, mainly because of the sheer volume of content: there are quests and places and stories in every little part of the map, the total opposite of Destiny. I think a good start for the latter would be much bigger maps. I find it difficult to believe Old Russia is the same size as most of Reach's Campaign.

          • The spawn point should be made into an outpost. Minor vendor supplies and special world specific bounties only obtainable there.

          • Love it. I think that having lovely, dangerous, exotic wildlife - plants and animals - would enrich the game immensely.
