Happened to me the first time because I tried to launch the game when the message said I could . . . but it was not downloaded 100 percent yet. I had to totally erase the corrupted download, re-download from scratch, wait until it was 100 percent downloaded before I so much as touched it, and then it launched just fine. I have a day 1 Xbox One.

We have all uninstalled and then let it download without touching it, just like you. We just were not lucky enough for ours to continue to work as yours did.

  • Oh my. I'm really sorry to hear that. After my own experience I felt sure that it was just an issue of doing the download in a certain way. . . . I just don't understand why the process worked for me but not for many others . . .

It's just really frustrating being in the dark on the whole issue...

  • I have a wired connection and the 100 percent download took about 2 hours. Are you using a wireless connection? I don't know if it could make a difference but maybe a wired connection gets a cleaner, quicker download or something...?

I am using wireless, but I'm wondering if the problem is the in game data transfer. I haven't had to do the in game data transfer since the first install, where I didn't let the game fully install before starting. So I am wondering if even after uninstalling it still has that corrupted data transfer.

Mine did that game data transfer the first time. I think that's what you don't want it to do. When mine correctly installed the second time, it never did that game data transfer routine . . . it just started the game right up after the 100 percent install. Meanwhile, if some corrupt data stayed in the Xbox after you're uninstall you may want to unplug the console pwr supply from the wall for about a minute, then plug it back in and start back up . . . A tech from MS once told me to do that when I had to clear out some corrupt data that was prohibiting COD Ghosts from starting properly. And it worked. . . Other than that I'm stumped. Our machines are identical . . .

What I don't understand is how on some tries I get better downloads. Only 1 of my downloads has let me freely play the intro and make characters no problem, and that one had the red and black bar at the bottom saying " connecting to Destiny servers " but on my other attempts where I can't make it out of the main menu, that bar does not appear.

  • Connection issues? Can you try running a hard wire cat5 Ethernet cable from your router/modem to your console or is it too far away? I don't think I ever see a red and black bar like you describe.

I don't know if I will be able to rig something together or not. I'll try.
