Agreed. With the emphasis being placed on some of the game’s social elements, fireteams need to be much easier. If you stumble across a couple other players in Explore mode, say in the middle of an event, you should be able to form a fireteam without even pausing the fighting – you shouldn’t have to navigate a bunch of menus and certainly shouldn’t have to o anything outside of the game itself.
Taking two existing elements of the interface – using the D-pad for social functions and using a long press (press & hold) to access some functions – improving fireteam forming should be relatively easy.
Long-press D-pad up – invite player to fireteam
Long-press D-pad right – accept invitation
Long-press D-pad left – decline invitation
Long-press D-pad down – leave fireteam
You should automatically form a fireteam when entering a Strike mission, regardless of your privacy settings. Voice coms with the entire team should function in the Crucible, fireteam or no.
Yes, this is an FPS, but it’s not just an FPS. There are a lot of MMO/RPG elements in the game already – classes, character development, inventory, gear upgrades, a social space in the Tower, etc.
One thing I don’t understand is how the Tower is supposed to function as a social space allowing you to form fireteams if the only way to communicate is via voice if you’re already in a fireteam. Text chat is going to be extremely cumbersome on a console, but some sort of communication solution is necessary.

This D-Pad invite idea may be the best suggestion on Feedback. Two big thumbs up on this!

Great D pad idea, even if you hold R3 or whatever button you've assigned to inspect other player and then press Dpad for a quick fireteam joining. And automatically joining a fireteam for random strikes, I've pulled my hair out watching that 3rd guy fighting an endless re-spawn of Hive Knights when me and the other guy are waiting at the entrance to the lazer room.

i use a KB on my ps4 for FFXIV. is no excuse to have access to a chat on screen at all.

Great idea, mate!

dude, yes

This is exactly what would make Destiny a truly "next gen" multiplayer phenomena: the seamlessness, the integration, the ability to incorporate social interactions as they would naturally happen in real life.

I like this idea a lot. It goes along with what I was thinking have the R3 button give you line of communication options. I want the social features in this game be up to par. I want to be able to form a fireteam on the fly, and leave it once I'm done with helping/playing/doing events or any other reason. In the tower I want to be able to quickly find people to help me, or help those who need it. Maybe they could add a status message to your R3 menu that tells people what you are looking to do, or if you need help.
-
The d-pad idea is fantastic. If you haven't posted this as a stand alone topic you really should. Would be a shame for Bungie not to see this. Joining a fireteam with random people in the tower should be extremely easy for those who want to and this system would seemingly integrate pretty easily.

i agree!!! i want to communicate fast!! with a chat in the tower to organize a fireteam OR with the emote system that can be changed in a List of Emote... Example: press D-PAD under ( open list of emote) with the other D-PAD choose your Emote to communicate a thing to your fireteam or your friend or anyone who stay in front of you. the emote that i want: -FOLLOW ME - WAIT A MINUTE -COVER ME - HELP ME -I'M DEAD, RESURRECT PLEASE and many other you will do..

Yes! Yes! Yes! Both points you made make perfect sense. I find it difficult to interact with people without even being able to talk to them. And as far as the D-pad shortcuts go, that would make everything much more smoother and simpler.
-
I Agree.. But I Think for Social Functions, the Options your suggesting would be better served under R3 - Inspect Player for Interaction.. There are already a few option there.. This would be the place to put Voice chat and 'Invite Player to Fireteam'. This would be easier implemented across platforms as Xbox does not have a Dpad.
-
They took the D pad off the Xbox??? Man...where have I been? Lol. Also... I think the other talked about option will be mapped to R3: The Ghost Light....you know..for those horribly dark corners of the game. Since theres no map what so ever, would be nice to know if I was running for cover towards a room or a dark wall :/
-
Very good points and I agree.
-
Great idea!!! I would like a mini window with the name of the players in the party
-
Yes a proximity chat would be pretty sweet

I agree. Considering Bungie's claims towards a seamless transition between private and public spheres while playing, there should be a way to engage in that in-game much more smoothly. I have to admit that it gets old for me to have to go duck for cover just to accept or send out an invite to a fireteam. I think the D-pad options are a convenient and easy fix to the problem, while creating a way more fluid feel to the game.
