In fact, the only country that could have reasonably prevented the rise of the [url=http://www.wikipedia.org/wiki/Godwin%27s_law]-godwinslaw!-[/url] party would be the United States. The rest of the allies in WWI insisted surrender conditions to be very harsh.
Actually only France did because they hated Germany and a lot of the fighting was on French soil, America and Britain didn't want such harsh terms but France refused to sign the treaty.
So we can blame france for WW2.

The US wasn’t THE ONLY one that wanted lesser terms. But the US never signed the treaty of Versailles... the UK went on and did sign it... folding to French demands.
This is off topic. But both the UK and the US should have strong-armed the French.
