If we're speaking biologically both definitions of the word are correct. There's nothing ironic about it though he cleverly used it as a way to bait the childish and the people who wanted to be amused by them.

Gender, in actuality, is not biologically specific, but also factors societal gender roles and is less about the biological structure of the reproductive organs a person is born with. Also, most adults I know aren't this adverse to sex. Strange...

I'm not trying to argue with you about what defines one's gender, and I'm not being 'adverse' (a better word choice would have been 'opposed' as adverse means something is acting against or preventing something) to sex. I simply stated that in the title of the post the word 'sex' was used as bait.
