As interesting an ideas as that is, it's not likely. In the alpha, we saw that the tower overlooked the last safe city. As you looked, you saw the traveller, dormant, weakened, damaged. The 'dead' guardians were (I believe) killed during the battle with the darkness. If this is the case, the guardians have already been brought back to life (at the time of the alpha). So in order for your idea to be feasible, we'd need to find ourselves in the beta in the time period before this, where the colonies were still human dominated and there were no fallen or other enemies to fight. Then the battle with the darkness could unfold where we all die. Again while this idea of yours has a cool factor to it, it would put us in a time period where there are no enemies to fight, and that wouldn't be terribly fun. Your idea is still creative and interesting just the same.

 • Good point. But if a Guardian dies, is it impossible for a Ghost to revive them? Because otherwise past Guardians would certainly be among the ranks of future ones.

 • I suppose, but I don't think that's what the OP was envisioning. I think he point being put forward would be to have us play the beta and bring the beta to a conclusion with the events leading up to the collapse. I think realistically what will happen is that in the retail game, we will get a fairly elaborate story setup video that explains all of the events from the time of the arrival of the traveller, to the collapse. Perhaps that stuff will even include living in the time of the arrival of the traveller, (seeing some colonies bustling with activity, a happy time) and the collapse itself. You'd be awoken by your ghost (centuries later) and the game begins.

 • Yeah you're probably right. Probably would be narrated by the Speaker or your Ghost. That "every Ghost chooses its Guardian from among the ancient dead" thing was a huge surprise just to sneak into a Grimoire Card. They'd undoubtedly provide that in a backstory vid.

 • Yes, and if they do, I just know it's going to be fantastic. Trust Bungie. :)
