As an independent, more of a centrist, I always feel a pang of sadness when I hear someone talk about the GOP. I'm not certain how much longer the GOP will be around for and it's sad to see a party that's been so influential and proud in US history in such disgrace. I want to know what the flood thinks. If you disagree, that's great. Tell me why.

I'd say it's the extremists and their refusal to work with the other party. In the UK, the Tories and Labour rag on each other constantly in parliament but when it comes around to passing something important - It's not going to be sniped down because it was proposed by the other side. They reserve that for bills/acts that they oppose for a good reason, but even then it's not a constant messy stalemate. And they certainly don't throw a hissy fit and shut half the country down to spite them.
