the difference between i5 and i7 is that i7 has turbo boost tech, which lets it minorly overclock your cores automatically during super heavy loads. you want i7 for gaming. i5 is if it's just a typical workstation that you use for business documents, etc.
if you're going to be gaming, a laptop isn't the best choice. also a laptop is a subtype of PC. desktops are what you want for gaming and other performance intensive tasks since they're far more customizable and modular.

I can't really do with a PC though. I need something portable.

you're getting a PC either way. if you can't carry a desktop man up, it's only going to be another 20-30 pounds. you either want something to game on or something to work on. you're going to have to compromise on something because different hardware is optimized for different tasks.

I actually want something for both gaming and work...I can't exactly be carrying a desktop around at college.

get a tablet and remote link that to your desktop that should be in your dorm/apartment?

I don't want to be doing that. I'm getting a laptop.

Doesn't seem like what I'm looking for. I'm looking for something that has comparable to the one I linked (assuming they're okay specs) but is cheaper, or for an opinion on the one I linked.
