If the argument for no split screen rests primarily on the open-world experience, I can understand that. If rendering two open-world environments is too taxing on the system, alright. But what about split screen co-op multiplayer (Crucible)? Enabling split screen in that game type doesn't seem hard since the maps are small and contained. Eric Osborne mentioned Guesting specifically, which makes sense: no investment in a character leads to not appreciating the game. But for 2+ people in the same room with online profiles it could make Destiny a viable game option, and allow players an opportunity to keep progressing their characters (level up, get upgrades, etc.) and stay invested in the game. Just a thought; a complete split screen experience would be awesome, but maybe something like that could get implemented more quickly. Edit: clarified that by co-op multiplayer I mean the Crucible game type.

  • Problem with that is that everything takes place in the always online world. Story and multiplayer are all melded together. You'd have to separate the two in order for it to work. By then, you altered the whole view of what Bungie was going for with this game. It basically just becomes like any other space shooter.

  • Does it though? My understanding of the game so far is that you select to participate in "Crucible" as it's called on their website. From what I've seen of alpha footage (even though that's not a reliable reference for what the final game will look like) it seems like you choose where to go from your ship, which for all intents and purposes acts like a menu screen. What's to say that with two people playing, the only choice that will keep both players signed in is choosing Crucible? Maybe I'm understanding that game type wrongly, but if it's designed as a separate arena by the devs (which it seems to be), I don't see why it can't incorporate a unique feature.
