Bungie just released that there will be no splitscreen in Destiny. However, they also said that if the community came together on a subject then they WILL listen. We need to band together, and show that we CARE about whether or not there is splitscreen.
I want to play with my friends and family. I don't want to spend $400+ just to please these major companies. Ever since Halo, I've loved split-screen. I couldn't STOP. 4-Player FPS was my DREAM, and now Bungie, my HERO, makes the one of the most beautiful games I've ever seen single player, I couldn't stand aside.
This is for the gamers who love splitscreen.
This is for the people who want to make their OWN choices, not the ones who'd rather have greedy gaming companies chose FOR them.
This is for the family.
This is for the friends.
This is for split-screen.
Please comment below why you do or don't want split-screen.
Also share this link all over the web. Twitter. Facebook. Bungie. With your help we can bring split-screen back to Destiny.
(EDIT #2) The change.org petition was made by someone else.
http://www.change.org/petitions/destiny-add-split-screen-co-op
(EDIT) Also everyone. Be nice and respectful of others. Keep it clean out there, I don't want this to be reduced to a shouting match. Keep the peace.
I hope you're listening Deej.
(EDIT)
Guys, lets think for a moment.
People talk about consoles not being able to handle splitscreen and single player experiences being ruined because adding splitscreen would reduce single player graphics.
If this was true, wouldn't Bungie have just said that in their explanation of why splitscreen wasn't in Destiny?
Think about it.
If consoles didn't have the power, wouldn't Bungie have just said that for their reason why Destiny didn't have splitscreen?
If single player graphics were decreased, wouldn't Bungie have just said that for their reason why Destiny didn't have splitscreen?
But Bungie DIDN'T.
Their silence speaks for itself.
None of the above is TRUE, because if it WAS Bungie would have just SAID SO as their excuse for no splitscreen!
Think about it! If it was TRUE they would have just used it as their excuse!
However they DIDN'T.
Which means only one thing:
IT ISN'T TRUE.
They never mentioned it! They said nothing about console power or single player graphics!
So the REASON WHY it wasn't mentioned is because it SIMPLY ISN'T TRUE!
Consoles CAN handle it!
Singe player graphics AREN'T affected!
And Bungie doesn't want us to know!
They only technicalities they went into were "rendering" and "tethering", however, they also never said that splitscreen WASN'T possible!
They speak of rendering and tethering, but never said that it WASN'T possible!
Cmon people! Look at it! Splitscreen IS possible, and we need to speak up!
Btw MMO's can have splitscreen.

2 RepliesIt depends for me on some things. Will these split screen be of the same account. Like will the second split screen just be "Almostuseful(2)". And hence be gaining double the loot drops and double the glimmer while killing enemies? If not, I'm all for it. But if so, I'm against this. Sorry, but I could see an instance in which someone split screens solely to take advantage of the double glimmer and loot drops. You could say to me "Well, you could too!". Except I want to play the game the way it was meant to be played. Now, if they make you use a different gamer tag and all the loot drops and glimmer go to two separate accounts/vaults/player/gamer tags, I'm 100% for it. This also brings to mind people wanting trading in game. And while I was for it at first, this thought/post had now made me against trading, but that's for another thread.

6 RepliesPeople seriously voted no for splitscreen? So not used to this non-halo crowd.

Now if Bungie don't implement split screen a lot of people are going to be angry and they have the right to be since split screen IS needed for this game because 1 you can play with a brother or friend 2. Both can play with different profiles AND level up 2 characters at once meaning you can try 2 different classes and have progressed the same amount without needing to start all over just to try a class out

Edited by Kekyoin's Underwater Donut: 8/11/2014 2:01:50 AMThis game, in my opinion, would either greatly benefit from split-screen, or take some hits. There could be a framerate drop, extra pressure on the servers, a smaller screen messing with your mojo, and other things pertaining to that. But think of all the good. Need an extra person on your fireteam but just can't seem to get a hold of a friend, or get a stranger to join for that matter? Have a friend, a brother, a sister, an aunt, an uncle, a grandma, a grandpa, or your
dog
join in on the fun! Your brother or sister want to play but you don't want to stop playing? Fork over a controller and boost the fun! But let's be realistic here...even if Bungie DID consider these facts and decided to put split-screen in, they probably wouldn't put it in until a second installment of the game. Here's hoping they'll listen and we'll see an even larger community joining in on the fun. :)

Well... whatever their reason, I was planning on buying a PS4 with this bundle in September for my fiance and I. Due to a lack of being able to play with each other, I will not be making this purchase. Huge let down. Note: Meant for my comment to be here, not a direct reply to anyone in particular.

If they can implement split screen without affecting the game as a whole then there is no reason in my mind they don't. If it only affects the split screeners then who cares?

When I hear some of the concerns for people who think splitscreen will be detrimental to the PvP in Destiny, all I can do is just shake my head. I don't inderstand how hard it is to grasp that the way destiny is designed will intrinsically create the requirement to have two fully paid for accounts (Xbox live gold and psn plus) in order to splitscreen. This means no "guests" but it also means that if bungie doesn't include splitscreen, then, as an example, the married couple who desperately want to play together will get two consoles and whatever problems you think will happen with splitscreen will gasp still happen! Having two players on separate consoles does not magically fix the whole "the second player in splitscreen partners always sucks" problem. The second player will still be as good or bad as they would be if they were playing on the same screen. All you're doing is asking people to pay for two consoles, two TV's and two copies of destiny in order to play in the same room as one another. You're creating a barrier of entry for people who just can't afford to shell out that kind of cash. I still have a 360 because I can't afford an xbone, let alone two. And I agree with the OP here. In the past, Bungie has specifically come out to their fanbase and outright admitted that a feature could not be implemented due to technical restrictions. They said something along the lines of "we tried to get 4 player splitscreen co-op to work with the campaign in halo 3, but after testing and tweaking and pushing our code to the limit, we just couldn't get it to function properly. So, rather than include a feature that barely works, and frustrate our fans, we are opting to focus efforts on other parts of the game." Here, with Destiny, Bungie has made it pretty clear that they're not pursuing split screen because it's a design choice and that being "tethered" to another player is not the way they want their game to feel. And to me, that's complete bullshit. It's not like we sit down together in a co-op game as say "Hey, now that we're in this game together, I'm going to go do something completely different from you and in a completely different area. Because when I decide to play with you, what I really want is to only play next to you and not be bothered to interact with you in any way! :D " Doesn't work like that. On top of that, just from playing the beta, the way their game works and how they connect you to other players is so ingenious that it seems like they've fooled most of you guys. You're only ever connected to 5-6 other people at any given moment at most to make it feel like a massive game when it's really not. I haven't seen anything that the game does that would inhibit or complicate two accounts being online at the same time. Without proprietary knowledge of how their engine works, I can say, from an outsiders perspective, that from a programming standpoint, splitscreen should function just fine, and those of us who don't splitscreen would never notice.

2 RepliesEdited by ShadowSong13: 8/11/2014 2:12:00 PMI agree that there should be an option for split screen. I am fine with if split screen is used then it will lower the graphics for those using split screen or are stuck staying in the same area at once if that helps. But my wife and I have played split screen coop for years including games like Halo, Gears of War, Borderlands, etc. Borderlands even had a nice choice of verticle or horizontal split screen and had a very mmo type feel with mission type and portals and areas. It was fine for us to play in the same area. We both have our own xbox gold accounts and even sometimes play with other friends and family members online. So for instance we will be on our tv and console and split screen and play say Halo with a friend or two online as a team. My wife and I both have jobs and limited play time so when we play we tend to play at night together. When Destiny was announced it was a no brainer for me to pre order it. However, once I found out it did not offer split screen coop I reconsidered a preorder. Without split screen it is not a perfect fit in our household. We do not have the money for two consoles and two copies of the game and a second tv. It is hard enough to afford one new current gen console. I know of other households with similar concerns where families play games together. I am sure Destiny will sell very very well without split screen, but if split screen is not that hard to implement then it would sell more. I am hopeful Bungie will implement split screen, at least for 2 players. But I am also realistic and from everything I have read it sounds like this is a long shot. At least we have other games to look for with split screen coop coming out this year like Borderlands pre sequel on the old gen consoles and masterchief collection. I'd love to play Destiny but without split screen it is not a no brainer pre order purchase for our household. I will have to wait and see.

There hasn't been one good reason in opposition to split screen co-op. Bungie has no excuse for the lack thereof. It's a simple task for a major company like Bungie to handle and yet they are losing revenue stream because of it. It's a beautiful game and a great company. However they made a grave mistake by not including the free built in advertising by allowing friends accross the world to show off the most expensive game yet. Personally I would want to capture every demographic available as well as secure future growth any means necessary.

Over dramatic as fucc but I see your frustration

Waste of resources. Nuff said

1 ReplyIf you want to play split screen, there are games for that. Destiny is to that game. How would characters be tracked until split screen with the current set up? Since destiny is heavily integrated with your console ID, how would you link in a second ID? How would that affect the capabilities of the first account? What armor would the buddy spawn in with? A copy of the effect put in by the first player? You thought about all the wrong points.
-
Bungie never says anything about Destiny, your applying this to split screen does not support your argument, if Bungie talked more, we would know why there is a third subclass card, or why they decided to only put 3 players in a fireteam, instead they give us the run-around in almost every interview
-
-blam!- split screen, the only thing they need to add is a reference map in-game.

I get peoples reasons for wanting it and you had a good thing going here right up until the edit and all the bold type, capitulation which took a semi-well write post and turn it into just another whining child demanding to get what they want and crying how Bungie lied to them. You totally lost me at that point.

That would simly cut into the money af online gaming and we Can't have that nope we cant ( MONEY RACKET)

4 RepliesI understand the plight but imo, this game will suffer framerate drops trying to keep two players connected to the Internet, with all the other players. The ps3 and xb360 would have to lower rez even further. This would make the game look another older than it is. If you could play the game offline and just two of you, that kills the crucible mode and raids. The social tower would be a ghost town and you would be the only two guardians that appear to be fighting the cause. So that's the story mode falling flat on its face.... Because it won't seem true. I used to love splitscreen. It was a guaranteed social experience. I just don't think it would do a game like this and favours and you won't be getting your money's worth just playing it local co-op.

1 ReplyEdited by Nyx: 8/9/2014 7:44:38 PMIf this game had offline play or LAN multiplayer, I would agree, but it's an always online game. I don't think there should be Split-screen in an online game like this. It would be cool to add this in after they shut down this game's servers though, that would be greatly appreciated.
-
2 RepliesNope no split screen. What you gonna do have two accounts logged on at the same time? Maybe two people playing at the same time on one account? That's the case let all get our friend to buy it and go play on his account together and cut bungie a profits in half! Muhahaha nah!
-
2 Repliesno, split screen simply doesn't work when you take in character advancement via loot and xp. also, split screen forces the consoles to work twice as hard. also, mine craft is NOT a MMO on consoles..furthermore, it's form of advancement does NOT show persistent character advancement which destiny DOES have.
-
15 RepliesNo because ss is a thing of the past. Its not going to be in the game. Sorry kid.

20 RepliesEdited by VIKDOOMX: 8/9/2014 5:48:07 PMNo I don't wanna have to deal with lagging splitscreeners in PVP please, it was annoying enough in BO and BO2. If the game was CO-OP only like it should be, I wouldn't mind. What is even the logic argument behind the Crucible.. we're supposed to be fighting the Darkness together, not exterminate all Guardians.. Seems to me like they only have PVP to attract a bigger Crowd, which IMO is the plague in this community, just look at the forums, most people who cry about balance are the PVP people, would we need any kind of balance if it was CO-OP only?
-
Edited by MyOps: 7/23/2014 1:16:53 AMI'd rather not see a bunch of [P2]s running around spraying and praying and losing every mission, strike, crucible round because they suck. We don't live in the past anymore... Split screen was a thing when there was no multiplayer. I can't see it implemented now unless it's for some kiddy COD game.

4 RepliesStill not going to happen
