Newton's Law of Gravitation: G M*m/r^2=F
G=gravitational constant
M=the moon
m=The feather or the hammer
r=the distance between them
F=the force between them
I'm sure you know this bit.
Newton's 2nd Law: F=ma
m=the hammer or the feather
a=acceleration
Therefor we can rewrite the Law of Gravitation like this
G M*m/r^2=ma
We solve for a
G M*m/r^2*m=a
the m cancels out
and we find that the rate at which an object falls is independent of it's mass
GM/r^2=a
Just some algebra.
