How do you know Marty is "the good guy"?

Everyone suddenly seems to know that Marty is the good guy and Bungie is cruel and a bad, bad corporate shark. How do you come to these conclusions?

Frankly, it's a bad situation either way. Marty wants his bonuses, and Bungie wants to hang on to every cent they make. I don't know the man personally, but I do think ending a longtime career with a lawsuit is a pretty shitty way to go. Regardless, I hope he succeeds in whatever his next venture may be.
I do hope he walks out with a big chunk out of Bungie's wallet, though. It wouldn't be my revenge, but after this year's E3, it would be very satisfying.
• Exactly! We all love Marty but we can't blindly follow him. Unless we know both sides of the story we really can't take sides.

  • Maybe because he doesn't ev[en know why he was fired, maybe because Bungie wouldn't even follow through on their policies maybe because he's one person and bungies a gigantic company, maybe because he made one of the best damn sound sound tracks ever?

  • Because Bungie is retarded. No matter how much money he wants, you keep O'Donnell around.

      • Consider that the only information we have is that Marty is suing Bungie over unpaid benefits. It seems unlikely that an individual would sue a company knowing his allegations are false. The falsities would likely come to light, and he'd lose the case. It seems more likely, given that Marty has gotten the law involved, that Bungie truly hasn't paid him his due.

Because he interacted with us on this website, and treats his fans well, I don't think Ryan has ever spoken to us, for all we know we could just be human wallets to him. It's only natural to assume the best about someone you know, Vs. a businessman who we never see. And, Marty alleges that the reason he was let go was never made clear, unless he is totally lying, Bungie isn't being very clear about this.

        • http://www.bungie.net/7_Facts-about-the-lawsuit-direct-quote/en/Forum/Post?id=65258874#referred-Bungie%20%28Bungie%29 Only a few are jumping to quick conclusions and assuming Bungie is:
cruel and a bad, bad corporate shark
Most of us Marty's fans are just sad and in disbelief this happened at all. Some of us are looking at the facts (see links above) and trying to draw rational opinions. You ask why some are taking Marty's side in the debacle, the public in general will side with the small guy, not the big guy CEO with all the money and the power. Marty O'Donnell is a talented and beloved artist and a huge factor in Bungie's success story. The latest developments have not helped Bungie's reputation to rise. The fans who have witnessed Bungie's progression from humble beginnings to becoming one of the most respected video game developers, have emotional ties (Love Bungie) and regarded them as a close knit, family like organization. In recent years, many of the core talent/old timers have left the company and in this instance, the straw that broke the camel's back, been fired... There is no doubt that their replacements will be adequate and equally gifted, nevertheless, the family as we knew it is changing and many of the talents we called by name or nickname have left. Since their partnership with Activision, the company seems to make decisions involving change in every aspect. Perhaps rightfully so, as Destiny is a huge and ambitious venture and needs to become a successful business for a very long time. Only when playing Destiny will we know if Bungie has kept its core individuality while appealing to broader audience or if they have become just another one of those franchises out there. Be nice to the goose.

        • Well I don't know exactly what happened, but I do know that they owe him his unpaid time, because not only is this the LAW in most places, but it's the norm for most businesses.
