World Cup should just be moved to the US or Canada. Can't say I won't be giddy to see if it fail spectacularly in Brazil though. Part of me almost hopes a couple their shoddy stadiums collapse mid game so people can see what a shithole that country is. You think Sochi was bad? Brazil is going to be many times worse.

  • Wat? Give it to England, we are the home of football and have only hosted it once

  •
Give it to England, we are the home of football
Debatable I say the US and Canada because they're close and have a plethora of sports stadiums that are ready could be used all over their countries. They're great countries for short notice backup plans.

  • Looool Football was invented and first played here, non-debatable, and we have the some of the biggest and best football stadiums in the world, plus the olympic stadium, we would be preferable

    Google define football.
a form of team game played in North America with an oval ball on a field marked out as a gridiron. British term for soccer.
• Yes, equal definitions Only reason armoured-rugby is at the top is because Google is an American company, and it is not soccer to anyone but america

  • Your definition has been accepted. Your terminology however, is quite puzzling.

  • It is debatable because it can actually be traced back to Italy. The British were just the first to make an actual professional league for it.

  • No, football has been documented here pre-1600s, the league was the first yes, and you are incorrect on the professional part, the FA was an amateur league to begin with, then semi pro post 1900, and eventually pro only a fair way into the 20th century, thanks for proving you don't know what you are talking about

The British version (whats known as modern football) came long after the original football that had been played since way back in the Roman Empire. However this might not be entirely correct either as there are records of a football like game dating back to the second and third centuries in China and Japan. In short the game is very very old. We're just playing the most current version of it. Looks like you're the one who doesn't know what they're talking about.

  • There is no evidence to suggest football pre-1600s, source?

  • Cuju is even recognized by FIFA as being the earliest form of football. It was played in second and third century China. Roman football like games are typically mentioned in various letters to one another and unfortunately most of the evidence an exact detailing of their rules are no longer around. The point is the game did not start in Britain and even in the history of football in Britain the game has changed dramatically from when it first started to appear. We're just playing the most current version of it.

  • We are the only modern country with a claim, Roman Empire is gone, China is not the same China, and point still stands that Britain is the home of what we know as football

  • It's the home of modern football. Football itself is much much older than that. Your original point was that football was first invented and played in Britain. All evidence points to the contrary.
