Unless the rest of the series is any better, and I doubt that, Firefly comes across as a self-insert middle class white kid fantasy of an LGBTQ-friendly multi-racial posse flying through "dangerous" regions of space with the utmost moral supremacy. The writing was so shallow and self-vindicating in the episodes I watched it amazed me that a conscious human adult even wrote it.
I never made it past the second episode, I might go back and continue it, but given Joss Whedon's record I'm not holding out much hope.
Unless the rest of the series is any better, and I doubt that,
It's all the same as the first, which is awesome. If that's not your cup of tea, then that's a shame. But it's definitely an amazing show to the majority of viewers.

I honestly can't figure out why that show is considered as good as people make it out to be, other than the production value. Hell, with as cartoonishly one-dimensional as the antagonists were, put alongside the do-no-wrong main characters, I was downright insulted. I'd almost think that Joss Whedon holds his audience's ability to think in contempt.
I honestly can't figure out why that show is considered as good as people make it out to be, other than the production value.
It would be due to the story, the characters, and the environment.
Hell, with as cartoonishly one-dimensional as the antagonists were, put alongside the do-no-wrong main characters, I was downright insulted. But as you say- you didn't exactly give the series a chance there so... eh. I'd say you're missing out, and you would do well to withhold such harsh judgements until you have the information to have a valid opinion on it. As a science fiction fan, I'm sure you'd enjoy it if you went in open minded.
As a science fiction fan, I'm sure you'd enjoy it if you went in open minded.
It was recommended to me by people whose opinions I trust, so if anything I was biased towards it. Then it ended up feeling like Deep Space 9 minus the interesting bits. I don't know what you mean by
A big part of the show is how the characters are flawed and their actions influence others.
but I might watch the show soon and tell you how wrong you are or something.

If you'd like to watch it again, don't watch it to try and make a point. That'd be a waste of your time, I feel. Go in to enjoy it. Again, if you didn't like it, then oh well. I wouldn't watch it again if you're that biased against it though because that preconception will only cloud the issue further.
