I take this with a grain of salt. I remember reading about how DICE said Battlefield 3 would be this fantastic experience on PC on the highest settings, and the lowest settings would be "console quality" like it was some insult or something. Then the game came out, and it looked the same across all platforms. Crysis 2 was kind of the same way except without the boasting in the lead up to release (at least as far as I'm aware). The game looked the same across all platforms, and like Battlefield 3, one was hard-pressed to find the difference between the game playing on the highest or lowest setting. Maybe 2011 was just an odd year? I know that wasn't the case with the first Crysis: pretty big difference there between highest and lowest graphics settings, and the same with StarCraft 2. So, I'm going to remain skeptical about news like this.

  • On what planet does BF3 on PC look the same as 360? I own and played both. Don't spout bullshit.

  • If you want to just assume that you're going to have a night-and-day difference on PC vs consoles, I can't stop you. But after a little research and comparisons, I honestly think they look the same. In my personal experience, I played through the campaign on PC on the highest possible settings, then half-way through the game switched to lowest and was baffled by how close I had to look for any discernible difference between the two. If you've got evidence of some distinct differences here, I'd love to see them. Same thing for Crysis 2.

If you honestly can't see a difference, then you haven't got very good eyesight. Not meant to be offensive, but the difference IS as clear as night versus day. I bet you are one of these people who say that can't tell the difference between 30fps and 60 fps too. Oh and YouTube videos are compressed so look crap. I would suggest playing the game on both systems rather than making up baseless theories.
Not meant to be offensive, but the difference IS as clear as night versus day.
Well, not to sound like an asshat, but if that is the case, then surely you should have no problem in providing me with a visual or written description of the differences between the console and max settings on PC. The only difference I saw in the video I presented was lightness and darkness, which I'm pretty sure has more to do with gamma settings or something like that... the overall darkness or brightness setting of the game. Yes, I'm well aware of the fact that YouTube compresses all their videos... they kind of have to do that to keep the speed of video downloads and the storage they require to house them low, though, so I can't really fault them for that. And besides, I'm not basing a lot of my judgement here on the YouTube video; I'm basing most of my decision on the fact that when I switched between lowest graphics and highest graphics on PC on the same resolution, the ONLY discernible differences I noticed were: 1) Lower settings yielded higher and more consistent framerates 2) Ultra settings had more pronounced "vertical bar lens-flair" things on the light sources Aside from that, all graphical settings had high-quality shadows, high-quality textures, detailed reflections, the same levels of particle effects and smoke quality, etc. If you've got some examples of things I missed, please let me know and provide examples of those things. Don't just write this stuff off as things that are so obvious you can't be bothered to explain them, because that only undermines your argument.

Anti-aliasing Anti-tropic filtering Different draw distances Different mesh quality distances Different model qualities Different model/scenery textures Most post-processing effects (lens flare is an example of this) Different lighting Different action effects (like explosions) Higher/deeper shadow quality And all of this is off the top of my head without studying the games video menu. If you any tell the differences - fine. But some if us can, and the difference is black and white.

  • Okay, Anti-Aliasing, I'll give you that one. I don't really consider that a graphical enhancement myself, just something that should more or less always be turned on to at least 4 or whatever. And I didn't notice the other stuff you mentioned, except for the post-processing lens flare. Oh, well.
