TES or just Skyrim? LotR is far more full, rife with creativity. And while I love all of TES games there's really no contest here, LotR > TES.

  • >More full TES lore is much more expansive and deep than Tolkein's work, if you take the time to look into the material.

  • I think you just have to take a look at the Silmarillion to see the extend Tolkien went to write the Lore, in addition to the appendices of Return of the king. TES isn't shallow but it's no where near as deep as LoTR.

  • I have read the Silmarillion, but taking into consideration the Obscure Texts and MK's work, I feel TES is more expansive.

  • Well I guess that is your Opinion, both works are deep though, and beat each other out in different aspects. so I don't think there's really a clear cut answer to which one goes deeper unless you have the time to deeply study both. as it stands though, LoTR just feels like a more, natural Universe (for lack of a better word)

Example? *Tolkien has his own language, far more expansive land (Tamriel consists of about 9 countries, all roughly the size of a small county, with the other continents of Akavir and Atmora still not yet revealed.) Not to mention character development or the expansive background for everything. TES is great, but not as great as LotR.

  • TES has many languages. Not as complex as Tolkein's stuff, of course (he was a linguist), but the presence of complex language does not make an exciting universe. TES is set across what is essentially an entire galaxy, and the lore is wildly complex. A good example is the character Vivec, a hermaphroditic warrior-poet and later living god, who achieved a level of consciousness beyond godhood, and attempted to create a universe of his own within his world. And that's putting it extremely simply and leaving things out.

  • Vivec is a good example of creativity, but a few cool characters don't make lore exciting either. Sure, TES has several languages, but are they actually languages? No, we only hear of "Falmer" and "Akaviri" and such. No actual languages. Just some cool dragon glyphs and such. The elves of Mirkwood have several characters to rival Vivec in my opinion. I'd rival him with Thranduil, myself. I'm not saying TES can't rival LotR someday, but based on what we have from Arena to Skyrim LotR definitely has the lead.

  • That's the thing, those are named symbols, just like the ancient Dragon Cult writing. That doesn't really count as a language. Although Tolkien had an advantage, he spoke Greek and Latin.
