I believe the reason Bungie wants to downplay the warlock as a healer is because you really can't be much of a healer with only potentially two healin skills (super/grenade) and quick kill times with free respawns. IMHO in this situation buffing teammates becomes more important as a sort of protection/buff class. What I mean by this is instead of actively healing your teammates you'll be doing DPS and landing supers that protect your teammates in important situations. Ie it seems that radiance is a team buff that might decrease damage taken by the team, but it was also mentioned it might be an area of effect Rez that could be important to prevent wipes.
Also it is my opinion that in the devils lair game vid when the warlock respawns the Titan the Titan has a fully charged super either due to a passive ability of the warlock or a unique item (warlock arm band?).
This would combine to make warlocks a very important support class that has the ability to prevent overall party wipe with crucial damage mitigation and group/buffed rezzes.
I know if I'm anywhere close to what the warlock actually will be then that's what I'll be playing.

Wish they would just add a magic based.classe that was.all about dps not healing like the war lock.

The warlock has a DPS and support based foci. If you want magic DPS you use the void foci while team supporters will use the sun foci.

If you can carry, he is the one to carry with when he goes super saiyan. Selfishly played, he can be an animal

There are only two focuses ?

It has been confirmed that at launch there will only be two available to us, but there is a general consensus that more will become available throughout the game.

Nice explanation of what the warlock should be.

Edited by Tibbaryllis2: 5/18/2014 7:50:43 PMThanks. People need to realize that most traditional roles in a third person style game with a mouse, numerous active skills, and extensive UI (most MMO) aren't really going to be feasible in a FPS with 2 active/non-movement skills, a traditional FPS UI, and a controller. Instead they're all going to be hybrid DPS with a potentially critical 1 off skill. I think if you equate supers to the 10-60 min cooldown skills of traditional MMOs like wow then you begin to get a better idea of potential class roles. It seems like, with foci tree specialization and passives, they can all be single target DPS, then can all be AoE DPS, and/or crowd control/DoT (with elemental damage). Where they differ is going to be the crucial element that makes or breaks your raid. With the bubble shield the Titan will be able to step into the role of tank when it matters and take that one hit kill the boss has been charging up. Through radiance the warlock can step into the role as healer and either mitigate the damage of a large AoE attack/swarm of adds or Rez half the raid that got downed by the Boss's big shot. We haven't seen anything other than DPS out of the hunter yet, but I could see them stepping into a support role by causing an important interrupt or stun or by marking a target in such a way it takes increased damage. Tl;dr - don't think of the classes as traditional RPG roles. Instead think of them as DPS 95% of the time and having the ability to step into a support role the 5% of the time it can really make a difference.

This does seem the most plausible method of buff/healing for the warlock. Also, I'm guessing the Order of the sun warlock will be the most efficient at producing orbs of light that help charge supers faster. I wouldn't be surprised if Warlocks could produce them every few seconds even without killing enemies with the right build. Chicken-healer hehe.

We've seen warlocks spawn orbs of life without using a super. My guess is there is a passive ability that let's warlocks potentially generate orbs based off certain criteria (I.e orbs are released when the warlocks super bar is charged, or gets a triple kill, or every x# kills, etc etc). It's pure speculation at this point, but I think it would be sweet if there was an active skill that replaced the warlocks grenade skill and caused the warlock to drop orbs. This would make for a nice conscience decision: DPS for me or DPS for my teammates?

This exactly. And I'm completely satisfied with it. I'm sure it will make for some awesome and refreshing teamwork-based FPS gameplay this way.

Considering, at launch, raids will only be doable by preformed teams presumably from your friends list, or randoms from the tower, (ie no matchmaking hopper for raids like strikes have) it can make for some very epic/rememberable moments.

And that's exactly why I'm so gung-ho for this game.
