That big statue in the back of the concept art seem to be holding so Etching similar to an Energy Sword, so maybe your theory about that planet being Sanghelios is right.

 • That was one of the reasons.

 • Have we seen any examples of Ancient Human architecture before?

 • As in on Earth? Or did you mean how Humans used to be Forerunners?

 • Well the humans and Forerunners were two very different things. In the Halo lore, humans didn't start on earth. They lived on another planet, (I think, could be wrong) and eventually grew to almost the same technological milestone as the Forerunners. (Technological tier 1) The Forerunners were created by the Precursors, (Tier 0, the only known beings with more advanced technology than the Forerunners) who were Super-Mega-advanced beings (they supposedly were like humanoid crabs with a large spike coming from the back of their heads). The Forerunners rebelled against the Precursors and sent them away to some other dimension. The Precursors couldn't escape this dimension, but sent some out sort of pod. Within that pod were canisters, containing a strange powder. The pod thing was eventually found by the Ancient Humans. They took the canisters back to study them. After intense scrutiny they found that the powder in the jars was almost entirely useless, but when fed to some animals (such as a sort of chicken thing they had as pets) it brought out desirable traits, like shiny coats. It became common practice to feed the chicken-things the powder, but eventually something changed. They began mutating, and formed the first Flood infection forms. From there the infection grew out of control, and Humanity was forced to flee. As they were running they came across the Forerunners, and the Forerunners beloved the Human were attempting to conquer them, due to their aggressive actions, and the Forerunner-Human war began. In reality, they had been trying to escape the Flood. Eventually the Flood found the Forerunners, which was the start of the Forerunner-Flood war. Then the Didact from Halo 4 used the composer on Humanity and created the Prometheans, who, being non-organic life forms, were very adept at fighting the Flood. But that wasn't enough, and so they went to Plan B. (Plan B being the Halo arrays, Plan A was the Composer. They were going to try to turn themselves into synthetic/computerized/Icantthinkoftheword life forms so the Flood couldn't infect them, but anyone who it was used on became an 'abomination' when they tried to reconstruct them, hence Humans becoming the Prometheans.) After the Halos were fired automated ships sent back preserved species to hospitable planets so that life could begin anew, and Humanity revolved and grew overtime until it become what it was during the events of the Halo games. (I got most of this info from Halo wikis, Halo 4, and Halo waypoint vids.

 • I knew most of that, but aren't humans just devolved Forerunners? Didn't they do that so they could make it so they might possibly adapt to the Flood? That's why Human and Forerunner DNA is so similar.
One theory (one supported by the Halo 3 Terminals) is that the humans became the inheritors of the Forerunner empire and technology because the Forerunners passed the Mantle of Guardianship down to humanity, as it was passed to them, presumably from the Precursors, and that the Forerunners re-encoded certain aspects of their technology (e.g. the Index) to only respond to human DNA.

New info was released with the third book of the Forerunner trilogy, Halo: Silentium, that shows that humans and Forerunners are both related in that they were both created by an older species known as the Precursors. The book also gives details about the early history of the Forerunners but does not explain why humans are able to use Forerunner technology when the two species were at war with one another that almost destroyed humanity. One possible theory is that the Librarian's "geas" she gave to humans gave them an instinctual understanding of Forerunner technology and another is that the monitors let humans activate Forerunner technology after the Forerunners were destroyed by the halos.
• Yeah, that's pretty much what I was thinking. I just mixed up old data with new data. My mistake.

 • Yeah, I saw it. That's essentially what I thought when I first saw him and the ONI symbol on his chest. Maybe he is a Spartan V, and is using a Mjolnir Mark VII suit?

 • Wait, I think we're talking about different things now. I told Lemon that Bungie originally wanted the Forerunners to be human but 343i changed it. I doubt he's a S-V, it's too soon and there's no need. Plenty of S-IVs to go around and more can be made. It's more likely that he's a very different IV or something else entirely, but not necessarily a new generation.

 • You know what, I found out what was wrong. Originally (when Bungie was making Halo) they were supposed to be the same, but 343i changed that. My mistake.
