Destiny: I Do Not Want to See Explosions In This Game

I find my point to be prominent particularly in the new Hunter Trailer. In this clip, you see a lot of fighting, cool abilities, and just in general some awesome images. But what this video makes me think of is not of 'power.' But 'lights.' Allow me to explain. When watching this video, I heard a lot of 'pewpewpew' noises. Typically, the 'pewpewpew' noise is associated with a game's energy/plasma/laser weaponry. That is pretty standard, and it is acceptable as long as guns sound unique. But what I did not get out of the video was the feeling of firing a killing tool. "But Burrito," you might say, "That is because you do not have the controller and are just watching a video!" To that I say: Pish posh! You can feel the power in something without controlling it. Haven't any of you ever seen a movie and known, through sounds and visuals combined, that a gun or explosion was powerful? Yeah. You have. It comes down to more than just controller vibration. I do not just want to see explosions. I want to feel the explosions. And the weaponry when fired. Sounds need impact, and the 'pewpewpew' noise does not give that. Hell, even the 'Thunderlord' in the E3 Demo, while sounding more similar to a 'real' gun in Bungie games, still seems like it lacked 'oomph.' Even indirect sounds (sounds other than the firing itself) could help, such as reloading sounds or hearing shells bounce off the floor. Weapon and explosion sounds are one aspect I feel the Call of Duty games consistently get right- one of their few strengths. Weapons feel powerful and feel like they have impact. I don't want to see my bullets hit the target. I want to feel it. See the impact, not just the bullet. Basically, what it comes down to is that explosions and weapons need a more powerful sound from what I have heard so far. Pewpewpew is great, but it is not enough on its own.

 • I don't really see anything wrong with the sounds the guns make, honestly. I mean, in real life lasers don't make a noise before boiling you alive. Unless you're willing to count the whole hearing your own blood boil thing. For the rest of their guns, I'd assume that the Destinyverse is of sufficient tech level that all their ballistic guns are either coilguns/railguns/other mass accelerators and don't use (smokeless) gunpowder. Anything that isn't seems to be some sort of energy weapon or perhaps powered by the Traveler's Light. So they wouldn't really roar like modern guns anyway, you know? It reminds me of the people who want an electric sports car to sound like a combustion engine driven one so much that some manufacturers installed speakers on their cars that produce the engine sounds JUST so a few people could be satisfied. Sometimes wanting something to be like something else just isn't in line with its own nature.
