Why is everyone so worked up about this?

Look, I like Marty and his music as much as the next guy, but it's just one employee. There's really no reason to get this frustrated over it. Despite being "terminated without cause" according to Marty, there's almost definitely a good reason for it. The OST for Destiny is already completed anyway, so his music is still going to be in the game. Canceling your preorders, attempting to create petitions, and staging childish e-boycotts over it is just plain silly. There's nothing left to do now but wish him luck in all his future endeavors.

because he's literally the heart and soul of bungie's games to me. even when i'm disappointed by every other aspect of the game the music always manages to set such a brilliant emotional tone that the experience just becomes something else entirely. marty is "the bungie feel," and he just got fired. of course people are going to be mad. the very reason many are fans of this company [i guess i'm part of the marty army now?] just walked out the door, and not in good terms with the others at the company.
The OST for Destiny is already completed anyway,
source? marty is notorious for leaving things to the last minute when making his soundtracks.
Canceling your preorders, attempting to create petitions, and staging childish e-boycotts over it is just plain silly.
i originally was not very interested in destiny aside from the soundtrack and art design anyway [though the soundtrack samples ultimately did underwhelm me]. so i didn't have the game preordered. so A) the game does not interest me anymore. B) the company is not something i'm willing to support out of loyalty like the old bungie. and yes, call me a fanboy/brand loyalty a$$hole [even though i can and have always criticized every single bungie release i've ever played], but it really was the case. and marty just might have been my favorite at bungie. i mean, it's not often you can just point to someone and say "that guy is basically the reason i love this game" [outside of lead writers]. i'm not willing to invest time into the destiny franchise outside of the music for this particular game.
attempting to create petitions, and staging childish e-boycotts over it is just plain silly.
this i can agree with. marty's going to do whatever he feels is best for him, and i want to give him all the freedom to him to do it. we should show our support for him, but not by attempting to bring him back or place him somewhere else. and yeah, this avatar isn't going to change for a while. *shrug* maybe i am just immaturely overreacting. so be it, because this really does sadden me.

  • The community, myself included, is simply in shell-shock, as this was an extremely swift and hard-hitting decision that Bungie made, and there's no cause that we even know of. It's a hit and run is what it is.

    • Marty got me into the story of Halo. After playing LAN Halo 2 parties I went home and looked up trailers for Halo 2. Last Spartan as so moving and energizing that I could hardly wait to play the game. Now he's gone and the future of Destiny is at stake. Should I invest in a game I don't think will move me the same way? BTW, it's a big -blam!-ing deal.

      • Because everyone sees "without cause" as a negative. Of course if he was fired with cause, then he would have no chance to collect any benefits while looking for new work. He would also be unable to receive benefits if he were to quit...... He might have still been held to a NDA, NC, or other legal obligation that would keep him from working on other projects that he wishes to work on outside of Bungie. There are a multitude of reasons why it could have gone down this way, and reasons why it is being kept quiet. He might have been pulling in to large of a paycheck and doing this would allow him to be brought in on a consultant basis and free up money to be invested elsewhere in Bungie. Who knows? only time will tell what happens, or if his termination was a good or bad decision. Until an official reason from either Marty or the BoD, everything is just knee jerk reactions based on speculation. I just hope the best for Marty in his future projects.

        • Don't really care. Destiny will not suck because of this. I like the guys music but he might be a total drag to work with. We don't know what happens day to day between him and the rest of the studio.
