They can't seriously be contemplating releasing two of these at the same time. I feel like whatever goodwill Black Flag built won't last. This is going to result in franchise fatigue to the max. Just release one game for 360/PS3/XB1/PS4/PC like Activision will for COD this year.

If you're expecting Unity to be the sort of next gen game that blows you away, that it's the sort of game you look at and think this is what next gen is all about, then you are looking at the wrong developer to deliver that. What you'll get is a good looking game that could have a downgraded version for the 360/PS3. For reference ACIV was a 360/PS3 game with an upgraded version for XB1/PS4.
Did I say that's what I was looking for? If the alpha footage holds true, then it looks pretty damn good.
For reference ACIV was a 360/PS3 game with an upgraded version for XB1/PS4.
Thanks for indirectly proving what I said about it gimping any potential the game has :) Cross generation titles hold back the game as they're developed to the lowest denominator and ported upwards (an example of this some ports from console to PC. Another example is Far Cry 3 and Skyrim.)

Let me rephrase this then: If you think Unity is going to be something so technically impressive that it would be impossible to get it running for the 360/PS3 then you need to temper your expectations. Maybe it just crosses that threshold into being only possible for the next-gen platforms? We're getting into that area. I'd be skeptical. Ubisoft is very deceptive about making the AC games look better than what they actually turn out to be.

Now you understand how making a cross-generational game inhibits it. I don't expect it to look as good as the trailer, but it'll look a lot better than it would if it was cross-generational.
-
You'll get a marginal improvement over IV just as how IV was a marginal improvement over III. I don't know how inhibited it would be since Ubisoft doesn't make leaps and strides in the tech department with these games.
-
Again further backing my point of how games are gimped by the lowest denominator. If IV wasn't cross generational, it'd looks better than it does, as the only thing holding it back would be the hardware I the newer consoles and doesn't have to cater to 8 year old hardware.
-
I doubt that. When we went from the Xbox and PS2 to 360 and PS3 the same transition happened. Just because developers are given new consoles doesn't mean they can suddenly make games that are leaps and bounds ahead of what they were doing at the end of the previous generation. First party devs kinda buck this trend.
Just because developers are given new consoles doesn't mean they can suddenly make games that are leaps and bounds ahead
Didnyou midst the part where I said multiple times that I wasn't expecting some marvel of a game or some technical achievement? I know they don't immediately know how to develop for the new consoles, bit them being more PC like than ever makes it far more easier for devs to make games for. The x86 architecture of both the Xbone and PS4 make it far more easier for them than the 360 and PS3 were. The sooner devs stop developing for the 360 and PS3 the better.

The point seems to be going over your head. There's a natural transition that exists between console generations. Your logic is dropping 360/PS3 support = XB1/PS4 games become technically more impressive. I'm saying that's not necessarily true. Especially for that first year the consoles are on the market. I don't know what Ubisoft's aim is with two AC titles. Maybe "Comet" isn't a $60 release? Why restrict Comet to the current gen consoles? The whole thing is bizarre.
Your logic is dropping 360/PS3 support = XB1/PS4 games become technically more impressive.
That's not what I said. What I said was, the sooner they drop support, the sooner they'll stop being crippled by last-gen and focus efforts onto making the game for the new hardware and figure out its tricks. I'm not saying they'll know how to develop for it as best as the console is capable of.
