This is reassuring because I plan on taking a friend of mine to see it. She's an early born-again, so my biggest concern was whether or not they would effectively and accurately tackle common criticism that Christianity receives, so that the movie is insightful, as well as interesting and entertaining. I honestly expected a flop, but I've been hearing good things about this movie.
My biggest gripe was that the trailer made out atheists to be aggressive, bitter, intolerant, condescending bigots. However, while this doesn't necessarily hold true for real world interactions, it certainly holds some truth in online forums such as #offtopic where people speak raw due to anonymity. Take a stroll through any "religious" thread in this forum that propagates God's existence, read the majority of the comments, and you'll see what I mean.
In fact, just read some of the comments from non-theists in this thread.
Honestly though, persecution in places like the US or UK involves being perceived as an occultist, illogical, unintelligent, irrational ect.) The worst we have to deal with is mockery, we're fortunate. If you want to make a movie about real persecution, base it on the Christians that are being imprisoned, tortured and/or slaughtered for their beliefs in places such as the middle east. They are the true martyrs.

That's because nearly all the threads are bait, and we know it. Nobody here seems to want a serious discussion, and the baiters would never let one happen. I'm guilty of this too, I admit. Honestly, I'm okay with this, because this forum is filled with reddit-tier pseudophilosopher teens. That said, if the discussion is about teaching creationism/Stupid Design in schools, or preaching abstinence rather than real effective sex ed, I will call people out for the idiots they are. And that's even more true of gay marriage, I'll tear your throat out for even thinking your religion gets to dictate how others live, and I'm not ashamed of it.

And why can't both sides be taught in school? I thought the purpose of education was to give people at look at all cultures and the beliefs/ideals that come from it. Schools still discuss the geocentric theory when discussing the heliocentric theory, schools still discuss foreign language when discussing the English language, schools still discuss mythology when discussing world religions The Christian religion doesn't dictate how can get married. The Christian religion dictates to love everybody and not to judge people

If you want to learn a religion that is what church is for.

I thought the purpose of education was to give people at look at all cultures
So, teach every religion in school in depth. We did cover Christianity in school from a purely objective viewpoint and that's as close you should get to any religion. The preservation of a secular school system that teaches proven principles is paramount to the seperation of church and state. We need education in America, not obedience to a diety.
And why can't both sides be taught in school?
Because one has a basis in science and the other is a gritty reboot of a fairy tale?
I thought the purpose of education was to give people at look at all cultures and the beliefs/ideals that come from it.
No, that's Social Studies. The purpose of education is to impart factual knowledge.
Schools still discuss the geocentric theory when discussing the heliocentric theory,
Yes, as an example of old ideas we have learned are wrong through science and progress.
schools still discuss foreign language when discussing the English language,
That has literally nothing to do with this
schools still discuss mythology when discussing world religions
That's because all "mythologies" are dead religions. Religion is mythology is religion is mythology.
The Christian religion doesn't dictate how can get married. The Christian religion dictates to love everybody and not to judge people
Then why are they trying so hard to keep gays from marrying?
