I still find it hilarious that the movie depicts Christianity as a small dwindling minority that must savagely defend itself from immoral atheists.

I think certain people have a "victim complex", but quite a few people on this site have a certain attitude towards religion, especially Christianity, that is very antagonistic. Essentially, some users are very hypocritical regarding religion.

  • But Christians aren't a minority in the US.

  • I know, they aren't. I was responding to your inquiry:
How?
As in, how is he proving Drone's point. To which I responded that some of the more outspoken users on Bungie.net tend to be rather antagonistic towards the religious, so certain Christians defend themselves so "savagely" in order to fight back. It's an endless cycle of butthurt and douchebaggery on both sides.

  • I'm not even talking about this website. I'm talking about the fact that not believing in God is still something that will get you a lot of dirty looks. Thing is, I couldn't care less. Simultaneously, now that Christians in the US are facing a rather small resistance to their beliefs, they go into instant defense mode. From the trailer, you'd get the impression the main character is the only Christian there. It's absolutely not representative of how it still is in the US.

  • I agree, I should have utilized a larger-scale example. Regardless, my point still stands, as both sides tend to be very rude at times. However, I think you're underestimating the size of the atheist population. Many overheard conversations among youth that involved religion have led me to the conclusion that the atheist population is, and will be even more so in the future, a rapidly growing group. In addition, it's not so much Christianity in general as much as it is outspoken minorities within the larger whole. I'm Christian, and I think the movie sounds kind of implausible, and negatively portrays those who are not of the Christian faith, which irritates me, as my best friend is Muslim. I think that the film doesn't get the right point across, and I feel that it further enforces the "victim mentality", instead of what it should be doing, which is informing people that groups like the WBC are in complete opposition to the larger, rational whole of Christianity, which usually goes unheard in the face of outspoken, more radical groups.

  • Both sides are definitely pretty aggressive, but I'm simply pointing out at what this movie is portraying. My girlfriend is Christian and I'm an atheist. I've bought her crosses and I support her decision. I just hate how this movie portrays both groups, tbh. It portrays atheists as some sort of 'immoral beings' and Christians as some sort of 'defenseless beings'. I've been in University 3 years; I haven't seen a single prof act the way the one in the film does. It's wrong. And no doubt, the atheist population is growing rapidly, it's simply still quite small.

  • I totally agree, that was my complaint with the movie; it enforces the victim mentality while portraying other groups as jerks.
