Jane increased the throttle and turned around towards Mr. Psychologist. "You said you can help us fight the bane because you can read our enemies. What do you know about the bane?" she asked. "I can only read living entities. As far as I know, the bane is not an entity, at least not one that I can read. I can only help you fight the individual manifestations." he answered. "For example, if you had let me finish back there in your lair, I would have told you how Rose could be easily disarmed and defeated. She, who is actually a he by the way, is suffering from an extreme case of loneliness and self-loathing.." "In other words, he has no life and no friends. He is a complete loser." Camnator interrupted. "Yes...I mean NO!" Mr. Psychologist stammered, "Rose has a life, but in his attempt to fill it with meaning, he lashes out at others in order to make himself feel better." "In other words," Camnator interrupted yet again, "The only loser there is himself." "STOP INTERRUPTING!" Jane shouted, then clacked her mandibles together. "Damn, she really likes me!" Camnator thought. Mr. Psychologist began to resume his explanation again when the ship buckled. A flying Hawke had crashed into the engines and the ship began to plummit.
"TO THE ESCAPE PODS!" Jane shouted without hesitation. She lead down a hallway where there were 2 pods waiting to launch. Fierce turbulence threw everybody to the floor except for Vien and Jane. Vien picked up Verbatim and Mr. Psychologist and stuffed them into the nearest pod and pressed a button that shut the doors. The pod launched down the tube. Then he picked up Camnator and went to the second pod. Another wave of turbulence threw Vien off balance, causing him to drop Camnator and fall into the pod, his hand accidentally bumping the launch button as he flailed. Before he could do anything, the pod doors had already closed and it had launched. "VIEN YOU FOOL!" Jane shouted. There was only one pod left. She picked up Camnator and carried him into it. A third wave of turbulence threw them both against the wall, forcing Camnator's head into Jane's sangheili bosom. He felt an exciting tingling in his stomach that he was pretty sure wasn't caused by the sudden acceleration towards the Earth.
Elsewhere, a corrupted looked up towards the descending pods and tracked their trajectories. "I sense worthy prey. Oh it's been so long....since I've had a good hunt." the corrupted said to himself as he raised his curved blade and gave it a lick. Engraved along the blade were the words "such hunted, such kill, such hunter." (to be continued)
