I don't think that the Middle Ages are really anything to be proud of.

how about science, navigation and the world as we know it? how about culture and an attitude towards preserving our planet that would make an alien race think every other nation is garbage and should just be obliterated? how about the vast amounts of the budget being thrown at improving human life and not just it longevity but its quality, how about Equality real freedom of speech how about real freedom, peace not tolerance but acceptance cultural diversity how about education? I'm not attacking anyone's country as I hope every feels about the place they're from as I do every country has contributed in one shape or another go back several thousand years and Iraq was the birthplace of writing, but anyone under any belief that this world we live in was created by any continent other then Europe is delusional and jelly. Too much jells aimed at EU take that energy and use it to work on your own problems because I can guarantee it a worse place to live then the EU.

But then there would be no skyrim...

Skyrim isn't based off of medieval Europe, it's based off of the Norway during the Viking Age.

Even Britain could have been a completely different place if the War of the Roses went differently. American's don't learn that much because it isn't their history. Also keep in mind things like Maths and Science where being pioneered during this period.

A few good things happened at the time that are completely unrelated to the things that make it a distinct time period.

jelly of our knights and castles? Yeah, thought so.
