Should sniping take skill?

Ok so in today's FPS there's 2 main types of sniper gameplay. There's the Battlefield kind were there bullet drop, velocity, and other stats take effect when sniping and it takes 2-3 shots in the body and 1 in the head to drop someone. Or there's COD we're it shoots perfectly accurate no drop or anything and it takes one shot to drop. What do you think destiny should have? ( and tho it's hard to admit halo has COD sniping...)

  • Let me start by saying all games have different sniping systems that have benefits and flaws. The perfect accuracy sniping has in games like CoD and Halo works in both cases seeing as CoD is short range and Halo is set 500 years in the future. Personally, I like the Halo "no-scope" system wherein you have a precise reticle instead of taking a shot that can go anywhere like in CoD. What many people choose to ignore is the fairness aspect of the game. You will ALWAYS hear people complain about how a shot "should have killed somebody" or "that was definitely a headshot". We're all guilty of at least thinking this, but in Halo it is much less common. The problem in CoD is the kill area is less defined than in Halo. The two body shots or one headshot system is well-defined and fair, so it seems like that would be the best way to go. HOWEVER... there was only one sniper in Halo (two if you include the beam rifle, but damage is the same). Presumably in Destiny there will be a larger variety of guns with a larger variety of stats, which is more similar to CoD. With this being the case, it becomes increasingly difficult to maintain a fair sniping system across the board. So how make it fair? I think the best thing to do is to keep the damage constant, or have a few separate categories of damage (for example a low damage with higher rate of fire, high damage with lower rate of fire, etc.). From these basics, vary the stats such as sway, zoom, accuracy, mag size, and so forth. So I guess in the end what we're looking at is sort of a hybrid style of sniping of Halo and CoD (pray for the Halo no-scoping system). I think the team at Bungie will do a fine job striking a good balance between the two. P.S. I never really played BF so I will not speak too much of the sniping in that game, but 3 shots in the chest seems a little much for a kill with a high-powered weapon. 2 seems like the max.
