To say "04 or Bust" is to remind us all of what brings people to Bungie.net. It's the game. You came here because you wanted a deeper experience to surround a game that you loved. I'm so looking forward to getting back to that - when you become players again. Someday soon, speculation and yearning will yield to war stories and debate. Bring it on. Someday, the new player base will brag about "Destiny: Day One!" and you can all pat them on the head and tell them you're adorable. And yes, they'll be aware of your legacy. The question becomes: How will you lead them?

  • I honestly came here when during halo 2 times. Account auto deleted but I remember Shishka when he was admin always laughing at those who got banned. I came back in h3 for the competitive community. I ended up really enjoying the ranking system and got noble legendary before the feature was removed. Honestly while Halo 3 brought me here again it was the community and forum ranking that kept me here. To this day I still cant understand why it was removed much like 1-50 for lolarena. But I sit here and wait for that chance to enjoy these forums for quality and structure something that was taken away from us as a community. Something that pushed some quality members away. We sit here and wait, pondering why?

  • I was just remembering Shishka. Last I saw of him, he was blowing up at us in a thread and telling us how whiny and ungrateful we were. I don't even remember what it was about, but that was about the time he stopped working at Bungie. I don't remember the whole story. Tell me DeeJ should I reclaim an older account of mine? That one is coming up on 7 years. "Our legacy" seriously has me intrigued.

  • It's interesting to me, I remember the old community of "the halcyon days", as they called it, dying out. I had no idea what forums were good for until I stumbled across a thread they were ALL involved in. I think the OP was Shai Hulud, but it was an intense debate that spanned many pages about the state of the community with incredibly lengthy and well thought-out responses. It was really eye-opening. I've lurked here ever since keeping an eye out for good engaging discussions. I can only begin to scratch the surface on what's changed around here since then. With all of the new users all of the older members retreated to private groups or stopped using the site completely. I look forward to that level of community again.

  • Honestly I wonder if it was the latout the removal of titles or change of community. I hope it goes back but maybe sometimes change is bad. It seems less topics are created. A lot of intelligent well thought out members are gone.

"There goes the neighborhood" accurately describes the attitude many of them had. Rank was something they implemented well after Halo 3 was out. I'm sure there were members who felt an amount of elitism with the title system who became disinterested after that feature disappeared, but I was speaking specifically of the community that still had active members from the days pre-halo. Their tight knit little community was self-sustaining. Only after it became bloated and "diluted" did things start to change. Their community was never the same. The age groups and cliques shifted. Eventually the old users were outnumbered and were drowned out by the rest of us. Naturally this put many of them off. It was all of it inevitable. This has happened to the community every time a new title comes out. It was just more felt that last time because Halo had become such a phenomenon in the public eye. If I may say so, that little neighborhood has now become a great city beneath the shadow of our gracious host.
