I would assume people would consider it "cowardly" because you're not taking any steps to find out what you really believe. You're just sticking to what you know to be true, you're not putting faith/belief in anything by saying "anything is possible". Essentially, you're acting like Switzerland by being neutral and not picking a side. Doesn't mean it's right, but I guess that's how some people might feel about it.

 • That makes sense. But I believe that it's on the contrary, in that it lets us theorize about anything or everything.

 • You can do the same from either side, it's just that the side you find the theories more agreeable with you join.

 • You can theorize about anything and everything no matter what your religious choice is. As an atheist, I regularly engage in debates on religion with my friends and acquaintances. I am able to suspend by disbelief to listen to their arguments because I have respect for who they are and feel an obligation to first understand what they believe before dismissing it. I know that the commonly believed concept of a god cannot be true, but that does not prevent me from looking at the world and one's belief through the lens of a belief.

 • But how do you "know" that the concept of a god cannot be true?

 • The commonly believed concept of a god. You can't be all loving while simultaneously punishing people for eternity for: -Not believing in you when you are entirely not present for their lives -Wanting to engage in sexual activities when you've made them to reach peak sexual drive prior to physical and mental maturity -Have a host of evidence that argues against everything major scriptures claim So either there is no god or there is but hes trying hard to trick everyone and punishing you for falling for the tricks, which would make such a being immoral and not all-loving. Thus I believe that the common view of a god is impossible. If we are able to conjure up several forms of arguably the same deity and have it be false, then we are certainly able to do the same with any of them. I mean, The Samerillion was a better creation story that scripture provided.

 • No scientific way to prove so, there's no evidence that science can, at least yet, find. Basing your beliefs on the possibility of God in modern science leads to the conclusion that God doesn't exist.
