We can definitely afford it; Ukraine spends 1/3 of what we spend on the CSIRO and they develop and build rockets to launch satellites, etc. Even Switzerland trains astronauts with a budget of $10 million (Ukraine's space agency has $250 million, CSIRO obviously $750 million). Even if we spent $100 million, it'd have the power to have a large impact on how children in Australia view science, etc. How many 5 year olds know what NASA is? How many know what the CSIRO is?
