In regards to Destiny's hype and the internets:
As you kind of implied, all will be clear with time. At this point, Destiny is too far out and Activision has yet to roll out their major advertising push. Also, for the sake of transparency, you can't really compare Destiny's numbers with Halo numbers. Halo was (and is) a different beast. With A LOT of clout and brand recognition behind it. At one point, Halo was the driving force behind MS selling consoles and those number reflect that.
As for this forum and any potential negativity (anti-hype) towards Bungie or Destiny:
The truth of the matter is, Bungie is in transition. Same goes for the bungie.net forum. A year from now the community as a whole will be a completely different place. New faces, new perspectives, and a renewed drive. It's our jobs to help usher that in and not stand in the way of the changing tide.
- There will always be cynics, naysayers, and those who are resistant. That's just how it goes.
- There is always the possibility that someone may not like Destiny, for one reason or another.
However come launch time, those how are still strongly opposed to Destiny will have to find a new home. Bungie.net should be a place for the fans. Where they can constructively discuss, celebrate, and debate over Bungie's games.

Just to clarify, my hope wasn't to generate negativity, but to look at this info from Google that I find interesting. To draw any major conclusions (such as a failure of marketing or lack of interest in general) would be unwise. I think the data is really objective because really it is just data from an unbiased source. For a game that is in this stage of development and marketing, it is definitely mostly positive. I find this encouraging on another hand, because those of us who are here regularly are here regardless of hype. We are here because we love Bungie and/or are really looking forward to Destiny. I think Bungie's marketing history speaks for itself (Throw in Activision and you have some great potential). This info I posted is one data point, come September the game will be off of the charts (literally the scale isn't big enough). We will see a huge franchise created. And here we are, before the world really knows it, a part of the Community before the hype. That's awesome. Minus the Bieberpocalypse.
