I fail to see how this would be "illegal" while written reviews are all practically paid off nowadays.

Edited by nao: 1/21/2014 5:57:35 AMSeriously, read the articles before posting people. End of the kotaku article they explain the difference.
Now you might be wondering, "Hey, don't game companies buy advertisements on sites like Kotaku all the time? What's the difference?" The answer to that question is that at Kotaku, the editorial and sales departments are two different entities. Writers at Kotaku don't interact with the people who sell us advertisements, and our editorial team would never promise positive coverage of any game or company in exchange for anything.
No they didn't. The Kotaku article just stated that they don't do that, not whether paying off reviewers is legal or not.

Yes they did. Kotaku's situation is the norm for gaming journalists. Reviewers are not typically paid a bonus to endorse a product. If they are its is law that they must disclose that they are being paid to promote said product. The youtubers are not disclosing that. Hence the potentially illegal part.

I no way is this illegal, if you sign a contract your obligated to follow it... Moral of the story is READ THE FINE PRINT!
