African Americans
Can someone explain why Americans call black people African American?
English
-
I don't. They're black. I'm white. Whatever.
-
I don't.
-
We dont, black folks like to call themselves that.
-
I think it's pretty self explanatory?
-
Lolno. Black =/= African.
-
Because of our retarded political correctness. For some reason it's a crime to call someone black, but it's okay to call someone white instead of Caucasian. I could do whole rants about this, but basically the way I see it is that calling someone African American is an insult because you're implying that they're not entirely American when in fact the majority of them are. The only people you should call African Americans are the ones who were born in Africa and came over to America.
-
Double standards!
-
Because I don't want to sound even more racist
-
How is it racist to call a black guy black? Their skin colour is the most notable thing about them, so calling them black makes sense, like calling a white guy white.
-
Yeah but it doesn't work that way here, where double standards run rampant in our society.
-
We call black people born in America African American.
-
It's the most politically correct way to say black people, that's why.
