What is your favorite Halo 3 Campaign Mission?
Hello, I'm just doing some research for a fun project I might have coming up. For the purposes of this poll, I would like for you to evaluate the missions strictly from a gameplay perspective, it's not that I don't think things like Story or Aesthetics or all that stuff isn't important, it's just not the kind of information I'm looking for with regards to my project.
Any anecdotes for why you like a particular mission over the others or extended lists of preferences is also appreciated :)

1 ReplyThe Ark was -blam!-ing GOAT. >sniping segment >vehicle segment >scenery >fantastic level design >music >atmosphere It's pretty much the amalgamation of everything that is brilliant about Halo 3, and Halo in general. The Covenant takes a respectable second place though.

Edited by Progo: 1/18/2014 4:45:01 PMThe Ark, multiple combat types, and that boss encounter with the chieftain and the invisi brutes was amazing, also you got to use flame grenades :D It was also beautiful, looking up at the space battle was just mind blowing. If Destiny is 1/2 of what the Ark was, I will worship it. My favorite replay segment was Crows Nest-Floodgate on legendary or heroic (depends on my mood lol), it's a good sampling of the entire campaign if you don't have a whole night to play it on legendary solo.

The covenant. Only a the double scarab encounter is good enough to make this level the best.

It's always been a though choice for me between The Ark and The Covenant. Both offer a fairly varied set of encounters. But evaluating more objectively, my vote goes for The Covenant. To be perfectly frank, this feels kind of unfair for the other missions that just weren't designed to be centered as much around vehicles. But it just happens to be The Covenant is a great display of the variety of the sandbox of Halo, and what it's capable of. The Covenant has outdoors gameplay, indoors encounters, an aerial battle, a short tank section, the Scarab battle, Flood, and so on and so forth. The level was really designed to show of the diversity of gameplay that you can have in Halo. If I really wanted to show someone all the things that are possible in Halo, I would undoubtedly do it with The Covenant because it just has a little bit of everything. There are undoubtedly levels in the Halo 3 campaign that do specific things a lot better than The Covenant. But The Covenant brings that all together in a way where the blame is more on the length of the sections rather than their particular designs. It mostly only suffers from problems which have more to do with the gameplay design and limitations of Halo 3, rather than the particular level.

Jokes aside because Halo 3 is actually amazing in every way. I liked the last level. When they crash on Halo and Master Chief says "We light the ring and all go home" always sends chills down my back. I actually say that phrase whenever I am about to complete something major in life. The wrap up to the trilogy was nice. The scenes that play after the credits were very nice too.

I have fond memories of the whole campaign on Legendary, system link after the midnight release with my main man, Zinger Tower. Doing the last level in the Ghosts (one of the Vidmasters, can't recall the name) was tons of fun. I did that a few times across different accounts :)

I actually don't know. Looking back, H3's campaign was severely underrated.

Strictly gameplay, my favorite was Crow's nest. It's the one I played quite a few times. That's me though. I think the Ark was probably "the best" gameplay level. Man, I wish I still had my 360 stuff, I'd love to try to Iron Cortana. I might have to see if the guys want to break ye ole Halo 3 back out for this Monday's game night. Not sure what you're looking for, but I'm sure if I dusted off my brain I could wax about that game for days and days.

The Covenant, The Ark, and The Storm I just played these missions yesterday on legendary and it was EPIC... except for all those misfortunate deaths. You die so bloody fast that you have to dodge bullets. I didn't exactly feel like neo from The Matrix, though - more like a piñata.

The Covenant. Most fun mission in the game, 2nd is probably The Ark.

The Covenant felt like Halo you know? It's beautiful and alien and huge. The Ark had a chopper, therefore, one of my favorite missions.

The Covenant is easily the most complete and representative mission in the campaign. It has all the gameplay elements a Halo should have.
